So Summer might be dwindling down, but that doesn’t mean you should put away your summer gear. Shorts in particular, are not a one-season type of wear – on the contrary, they can be one of the most versatile pieces in your wardrobe. Dress them up or dress them down, shorts continue to be a fabulous pants-free alternative year round. And with Fall just a little less than a month away, what better time to show you some great fashion tips on how you can make the most out of your shorts this coming season.
Recycle Your Summer Shorts
Now you may think that you need to go out shopping for some amazing shorts for fall, but we recommend you search your current wardrobe first and see what you can use again. If you’re on the West Coast, chances are the weather may still be fairly warm in the early fall so you may not have to cover that fabulous tan you got going on your legs. Show off your own style by combining your summer shorts with button-up shirts and fall inspired pieces.
If the weather is a little chilly, tights are your best option. Wear a fun pair of tights under the shorts and easily transform a summer outfit to a great fall fashion ensemble.
Rock the Day to Night Combos
Back leather has been a trend the last few seasons and it seems like it’s going to stick around for a little bit longer. We’re not surprised! A great pair of leather (faux) shorts are amazing, versatile pieces you can easily transition from day to night. For a great combo, take your black leather shorts, add a basic black blazer, don pumps or over-the-knee boots and finish off with statement earrings or an edgy nail color, and you’re good to go for a 9-to-5 job and beyond.
Pulling off this perfect all-black outfit is so easy and works year round. But why stop there? Consider adding a pop of color. One of the shades we’re currently loving (and so is Kermit the frog) for Fall 2016 is kelly green and different hues of blue. The pop of color can also come in fun statement pieces that can be easily switched out depending on the occasion.
Celebrate Your Glam
Even if your style is more classic glam, you can definitely incorporate shorts in your fall line up. The trick is in choosing the right color and cut. Shorts in neutral shades like beige, gray, or navy work fantastically when putting together a polish look.
Also, matching well-tailored shorts with elegant ladies jackets and booties can give you the boost of confidence to ace any important meeting.
Layer like a pro
Fall nights can get a bit chilly, but the good news is that layering is a big fashion yes. You can stay warm during those chilly mornings, take off a layer in the warmer afternoons, and then add a layer again in the evening.
If you’re making your summer print shorts the focal point, then make sure to keep your layers neutral or at the very least solid colors. Or vice versa. We love layering a crewneck sweater over a simple shirt with our shorts because it is so incredibly easy to put on and pull off depending on the weather.
Look like an off-duty model
Don’t worry, jean shorts are more than welcome in the fall season. The so-called off-duty model look is easy to recreate – put on a pair of jean shorts, slouchy T-shirt, sneakers or slip-ons, and a leather bag. The Colder day version of this look requires simple black tights, a leather jacket and a scarf.
