DIY Homemade Face Scrub for Winter

exfoliate, diy face scrub, beauty

With the cold weather wrecking havoc on our skin, we have been bumping up our skincare to ensure our skin does not get dull, dry or flaky.  How? Exfoliation. We make sure to schedule a face scrub one to two times a week. Now we love trying different brands and exploring all the face scrubs on the market, but we always go back to our homemade one. We love it so much, we just had to share.

What We Need

IMG_8367 (1)

  • ½ cup of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • ½ cup of Brown Sugar (Fine or coarse)
  • 1 teaspoon of Sea Salt (optional)
  • 1 glass jar with lid for storage

Directions

[Make sure to sanitize the glass jar before you begin making the scrub]

Pour the olive oil, brown sugar and sea salt into the glass jar. Take a spoon or small whisk and stir the ingredients together. Don’t over mix, as this will break down the sugar and not give the best results.

Seal the jar and place it in a cool area. We recommend putting your scrub in the refrigerator or in the bathroom this way you’ll have easier access to it.

This homemade scrub should last for 2-4 weeks.

To Use

When you’re ready to use the scrub just stir it a bit since the olive oil and sugar can sometimes separate a bit.

Splash a bit of lukewarm water on your face beforehand. This will ensure you can work the homemade scrub on your face. Now with clean hands scoop a bit of the scrub with your fingers and dab some on the cheeks, nose and forehead. Let it sink in for a minute or so.

After a few minutes begin to moisten your hands with some+- more water and start to work the scrub in circular motions. You might have to keep wetting your hands a bit until the sugar dissolves.

Once it’s done, it’s now time to wash your face. Your skin should feel soft and supple.

Don’t forget to follow up with a moisturizer, serum and sunscreen as the skin will need the added benefits and protection.

Side note: If you feel an oily residue, just use a light cleanser and voila, you should be good to go.
