If you’ve been waiting for season 3 to start, the wait is over. Rizzoli and Isles is back, and even better! The show picks up to the aftermath of last season’s intense finale, where detective Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) shot medical examiner (and best friend), Maura Isles’ (Sasha Alexander) Mob-boss father, Paddy Doyle. Now there’s a major rift between the two women.
As Isles deals with her mom in the hospital ( after being hit by a car) and her unconscious dad, she’s not exactly ready to forgive Rizzoli. Meanwhile, Rizzoli is feeling guilty about the whole thing. We see a flashback of the scene where she is forced to shoot Doyle before he has a chance to shoot her. Next there’s a flashback of Rizzoli getting Isles ready for her first undercover sting. We’re given a closer look at how much these two have become an integral part of each other’s life. So it’s difficult to see them drift apart.
If that’s not enough, Rizzoli is now being investigated by internal affairs. Turns out they think she’s a dirty cop since she’s best friends with a Mob-boss daughter. To top it all off, she’s feeling betrayed by her lover Agent Dean. Not a good sign for these two lovebirds. Yikes!
Isles decides to resign since she feels like she’s putting Rizzoli and the team in jeopardy. As an independent at heart, she wants to deal with everything herself. But finds comfort from Angela (Lorraine Bracco) Jane’s Mom, who treats her like a daughter.
Despite the existing rift between Rizzoli and Isles, it’ll be a crime by the producers to keep these two best friends apart forever. Guess we’ll have to wait and see when and how they’ll make up. We only hope it’s soon because the duo is truly missed!
