While bold, glam makeup continues to be very popular on our Instagram feeds, we are definitely seeing the minimalist makeup trend more and more. Now this trend can mean different things for different people. For some, it’s sporting a clean face with little to no makeup, and for others, the focus is more on cutting down on products. The latter can be hard to do, especially as beauty enthusiasts wanting to try every product on the market. But not to fret! We have a few tips to help you limit the amount of products you use, while fully embracing the minimalist makeup trend.
Even skin tone

Your makeup is only as good as your skincare. This is especially accurate with minimalist beauty where your skin will be brought to the forefront more. So good products are key. Now there are so many moisturizers on the market from drugstore to high-end, but it is important to pick one that meets your skin’s needs. Always apply a light serum and a high enough SPF suncream to protect your skin even more. If you have oily skin, then focus on the problem areas, usually around the T-zones. And if you learn more on the dry skin then hydration, hydration, hydration.
Opt for Quality Foundation

Not all of us have an immaculate complexion 24/7, which is why many of us use makeup to completely cover those imperfections. However, why not let the skin look like skin. Besides an excellent skincare routine which should include a facial cream or moisturizer, picking up one great quality foundation is key. While it can be tempting to buy two or three different foundations, if you’re looking to cut down on the products you use and stay on the trend then you’ll need to stick to a foundation that best matches your skin tone. And remember, less is more so don’t forget to let some of your skin peer through the foundation.
Light Bronzer

Just like you should avoid heavy foundation, the same goes with intense bronzer. The key to a minimalist look is not to overdo. Add a touch of highlighter where the sun would naturally hit your face to add some glow to the face. For minimalist beauty, bronzer should only be used to add a bit of light definition. If you need a little boost of color, just pinch your cheeks a bit or apply some lipstick on the cheek for a natural looking cheek stain.
Enhance the lashes

They say the eyes are the windows to our soul, which is why an emphasis on the eyelashes can really complete a look. Now we love a good dose of mascara on the lashes, but sometimes it can be hard to achieve just the right look. One thing we like to do is play around with high quality false lashes. Nothing too dramatic. Just soft, subtle lashes to add some fullness to our own natural ones and still keep the makeup well balanced.
The Nude Lips

For a maximum minimalist makeup look, transform your lips. Go for bold red lipstick if you are going for a little to no eye makeup. A shiny nude lipstick is also a winning combo. While there are several lip color options to choose from, especially in the nudes and mauve categories, there is a product we love to use which is lip balm. Sometimes a lipstick or gloss just doesn’t cut it so lip balm is the perfect solution. And nowadays, you can also find tinted lip balms. Simply apply them with your fingers and give your lips a fresh flush.
Eyeshadow is still a Go

While a dark smoky eyes look might not quite fit the minimalist beauty, it doesn’t mean we have to steer clear of eyeshadows completely. With a thin angled liner brush, add a smooth black eyeliner very close to the top lash line to contour the eyes a touch. Also, adding a light sweep of a mid-tone brown eyeshadow that compliments your skin color best on the crease, can add dimension.
Natural groomed brows

A low-key look can be easily achieved by reshaping your eyebrows. You can use an eyebrow pencil just to lightly arch and contour its frame. If you happen to have thicker eyebrows, great for you!. Natural-looking eyebrows make a wonderful statement without looking like you tried too much.So groom your natural brows with a brow brush and later use a light brow pencil just to fill in any spars spaces. Only delicately color your brows and leave them alone.

Yes, this is my go-to daily makeup though I haven’t had a staple makeup for my eyes… the finishing touch of the bronzer really adds much drama to the face… and the perfect foundation will always save the day!
