Now we know the life of a Girlboss is never ending. But even with the busiest schedule on the world (or almost), there is always room for taking care of ourselves. One of our favorite ways to get some great quality self-care is through yoga. The infinite mental and physical benefits of yogas offers is absolutely incredible, especially given this fast-paced society we live in. All it takes some solid time management skills and a little creativity, and yoga can become a part of your daily routine. This can sound a little challenging to say the least, which is why we are sharing five of our best tips on how to successfully incorporate yoga in your life and reap the most benefits for a healthier, balanced lifestyle.
Embrace being a Beginner
It’s impossible to become a yogi overnight, but that’s okay. No one can mastered yoga in a day! When first starting yoga, take your time learning how to properly go through the motion of poses and sun salutations. The key is to embrace being a beginner. Don’t be discouraged if there are poses that do not come easily to your body right now. Having strength, flexibility, and endurance takes time, but will be well worth the effort.
Remember, practicing yoga should be fun, rewarding and challenging, not a constant struggle that causes you unrelenting frustration. Every great yoga master was once a beginner, too!
Tip: We suggest tracking your progress on a journal or note app every day to see your growth, and also help make short and long-term goals for yourself.
Choose the Right Time Schedule
Unfortunately, there is no magic time to practice yoga. That’s why you should analyze your day to find the optimal time!
Do you find that you’re more productive in the morning? You can kickstart your day right with a sun salutation to ease into the day rather than immediately diving in. Are there any plateaus in the afternoon where you’re relieved to catch your breath? A lunch break is a perfect opportunity to stretch in your chair and get some fresh air outside the office. What about the evening; do you enjoy the process of winding down or do you just like to hit the hay and call it a night? Any nighttime routine could be enhanced with a relaxing series of poses to release muscle tension and lingering stress to help you sleep better.
There will be days where you may have to adjust when you do yoga, but what matters is that you’re intentionally making it a part of your daily routine.
Use it as a Stress Reliever
The next time you feel stressed and overwhelmed, turn your mat into a sanctuary of sorts and yoga as a way to unwind. Yoga is a natural stress-reducer since the practice stimulates the production of endorphins and dopamine, which lowers your pain response and helps you bounce back from a low mood. The key is to direct all the energy into the poses rather than the stress, as well as use stress-relief technology and apps in conjunction with yoga to lower your stress.
Yoga Time with Friends
Yoga is a great activity to do with a friend! It not only makes yoga fun, but helps make it a habitual thing. So the next time you find yourself making plans with a friend, suggest that you both take up yoga together in either one’s home, out in a park, or by the ocean. Of course there are always indoor classes as well. What better way to enjoy a relaxing and enriching experience together! Who knows? You may even end up gaining a yoga buddy.
Eat Right
Eating healthy and exercising go hand-in-hand. When you’re conscious of the food you eat, you will be more inclined to practice healthy habits in every other area of your life. Gradually, you will begin to notice how your body reacts and feels thanks to a nutritious diet and exercise. Don’t forget that a well balanced meal offers you the nutrients your body needs to keep up with the rigor of yoga.
Now we hope these five tips have made incorporating yoga into your daily routine a possibility even when life gets busy. Happy Yoga!
