[dropcap]V[/dropcap]eil Cosmetics recently launched AutoMatte, a skincare infused powderless mattifier that works on all skin tones. This mattifying base and touch up not only combats oily skin and shine, but also comes packed with Vitamin C & E that help brighten, protect, and clarify the skin. Sounds interesting, right? Well Beauty editor Starrie Lowe also agreed and recently had the chance to test out the AutoMatte at the South Bay Kennel Club Dog Show in Torrance, California. Keep reading to see what she had to say about this product and how it held up at the outdoor dog show.
Now I didn’t want to simply try AutoMatte on any simple day, which is why I opted to take it for a test run at the South Bay Kennel Club Dog Show. I knew that the hot and humid weather along with running from show ring to show ring to catch all my favorite breeds would be the ideal hectic setting to see how the product would truly hold up. As I navigated the outfield of more than a hundred dogs, I was pleased to find that the mattifying base felt light, not cakey or sticky despite the running around. Nor did the humidity noticeably interfere with the adherence of the product on my bare face. And while I chose not to wear makeup to the show and can’t confirm how to it operates together yet, I did notice that the AutoMatte did a great job in preventing excess shine and oil buildup–something my sensitive skin was thankful for.
Throughout the afternoon, I found myself needing very little touchup. A slight dab here and a dab with my fingertips was all I needed. As someone who is on the go, I love when a product fits into my lifestyle. And I was very impressed with how effortless it was to use the AutoMatte to touch up my face, almost as effortless as the seasoned professional handlers trotting their prized canines about the ring for the coveted first place trophy.
As I’ve touched on previously, the AutoMatte works as a base and a touch-up. I do recommend the following tips to get the most out this product:
As a Base: Prime your skin with Sunset Light Primer/Serum first, then take the black sponge conveniently provided and rather than simply pushing the sponge into the product, it is recommended that you use light circular motions with your sponge when you’re loading the product. The same technique applies for finger application. Rub your fingertip gently in a circular motion to pick up product then smooth onto complexion. You can also use a flat dense brush like a concealer or foundation brush.
As a Touch-up: Over bare skin, just rub or lightly pat on using a sponge/brush/finger over the desired area to take away excess shine. For those wanting to touch up over makeup, Veil Cosmetics suggest that if you use the sponge provided that you use a press and roll motion to take away any shine and keep your makeup looking fresh. If using fingers or a brush, a gentle patting motion is more ideal.
Overall, the AutoMatte was very impressive. It kept the shine at bay and kept the need for frequent touch-ups on a minimum, especially if you consider the heat and the running around I did during the South Bay Kennel Club Dog Show. I would definitely recommend this product for those wanting a great primer that feels light on the skin but offers great blurring effects. Plus it comes in a convenient compact with a mirror.
The AutoMatte retails at $39 and can be picked up at www.veilcosmetics.com.

Wow, these look fantastic. Actually never heard of this brand Veil Cosmetics. But this new line AutoMatte seems really nice and trendy. Seems not too bad for 39 dolllars as well, will def. give it a try.
I have never heard of this brand! I do love hearing about new brands to try though!
This looks like such an interesting product. I’ve never heard of Veil cosmetics before, I’ll have to check this out.
I love matte products because I have oily skin. But sometimes when I put on matte make up I get too dry. Hopefully this brand would be able to deliver a balance.
I have used a veil product but it sounds good. Can give it a try.
I like the idea of it combating the oily skin. I live in a very hot climate and as soon as I get out my make-up starts melting. I would be interested in trying this out.
My daughter has oily skin and she should try this product. I have dry skin so this may not work for me.
I admit, I don’t know much about make up, so this was an interesting read for me. My daughter is 11 and actually knows more than I do thanks to YouTube tutorials.
This looks really nice if you have oily skin. My skin is usually dry so I don’t use matte products often.
I will share this with my wife. She’s always looking for new options.
I’ve never heard of this before or even the Veil Cosmetics brand. Sounds like a great product x
I love the whole packaging for this product! I need a new primer, do you know if these are cruelty free or not and if they have any sellers in the UK?
This looks like such an interesting product. Hopefully this brand would be able to deliver a balance.
These product looks amazing. Will try this brand cosmetics soon
That sounds promising. would love to try it
Never used this brand before. You should do a whole post on them.
what a nice brand, i like this product and having to get one of this for my sis wouldn’t be a bad idea
I’m so glad that the product worked so well for you over the course of a very busy day! I like to glow, but I never want to outshine everyone else around me…with my face. 🙂
That looks like a great product. I’ve always been a drug store makeup kind of girl. Maybe one of these days I’ll branch out and try something fancy!
Like others have said, I’ve never heard of this brand of cosmetics before. But you have provided a nice review, from firsthand experience, and it sounds like a good product.
This looks like such a great product. It is not a brand I am familiar with but its definitely something great to check out.
I’ve never heard of this brand, but that’s because I’m also not into cosmetics that much. But knowing that AutoMatte is both for touch-up and base.
Good tip on moving the sponge in a circular motion. I love to try new make=up and see make up tips.
I’ve never heard of this brand but this mattifying product sounds so exceptional! Definitely something I’d like to try.
I prefer a matte finish to my face so this sounds brilliant, I’ve not heard of this brand before
I recently heard of Veil Cosmetics through one of my reviews. Their quality is really good. Definitely a new favorite.

I have never heard of this brand before but the Automatte mattifying really intrigues me. The fact that it comes in such low prices is compelling me to give it a try
Now I wonder why we don’t have a Veil Cosmetics here in Manila? This mattifying touch-up looks impressive.
Never heard of brand but looks like a great brand. Would love to try this sometime soon.
Veil Cosmetics… sounds interesting.. I’d love to try this one… 🙂
