Self-care begins with taking care of our skin. Whether that’s simply taking a moment every day to cleanse and moisturize your skin or setting aside time in our busy week to enjoy a long, hot bath, self-care is really whatever we make it. Another great way to take care of ourselves is to get a professional facial.
Facials serve a number of beneficial purposes. For one, they are a great way to relax and let go of stress. Aestheticians oftentimes play soothing music to provide optimum relaxation, so it’s the perfect time to close our eyes, tune out, and unwind. Facials also deep-clean our skin and clear out pores so that our skin looks its very best. Depending on which products are used during the treatment, facials even have the ability to stimulate collagen production, add firmness and brightness, and increase moisture within the skin.
No matter what kind of facial you opt for, there are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind when caring for your skin post-facial. So keep reading to learn what you can do to prolong the benefits of your facial, and see a lasting and noticeable difference in your skin.
Use Gentle, Natural Products
After a facial, you should always expect that your skin may feel extra sensitive, especially if you’ve had a peel, exfoliation treatments like microdermabrasion, or any extractions. Try using gentle, natural products, especially if you have sensitive skin – something like this Calm Facial Bar will help soothe and calm any visible redness or irritation you may be feeling. Check the packaging of your skincare products beforehand, and look for natural ingredients like pure sea clay, activated charcoal and soothing essential oils such as lemongrass and chamomile, and if at all possible, try to stay away from products with parabens and artificial fragrances in them
Wear Your Sunscreen
Many skin care professionals will tell you that sunscreen should be used daily to prevent skin cancer and signs of aging, but it’s especially important that we use it following a facial. Exfoliation increases skin sensitivity, and certain products used in facials often make your skin more susceptible to the sun’s UV rays, so it’s extra important to incorporate sunscreen into your skin care regimen, regardless of the season (yes, even in the winter!). If you’ll be swimming or participating in water activities, protect your skin and preserve our ecosystems by using a reef-friendly sunscreen, and reapply as needed.
Moisturize darling!
Facials are nourishing and moisturizing for our skin, so, to prolong that noticeable glow, it’s important to continue moisturizing your face regularly. If you have oily or combination skin, a lightweight moisturizer will keep your skin fresh and hydrated, without feeling greasy. If your skin is on the drier side, an ultra-hydrating cream is the way to go, and will help lock in moisture for a glowing complexion. When considering your options, look for face creams that are free of mineral oils and synthetic dyes, so you can be confident in knowing exactly what you’re putting on your skin. Instead, keep an eye out for great skin-loving ingredients like hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C! Moisturize day and night after cleansing and using a toner.
We hope these three simple tips will help you care for your skin after you’ve had that incredible facial. Here’s to great skin in 2019!

I really appreciate the advice! I must confess, I have never had a facial, but it has been on my list of things to try lately. I will keep these tips in mind 🙂
I don’t care good care of my skin. It’s a little dry and the only thing that seem to help is karite’ butter.

Great tips! Sunscreen is not talked about enough, imo!
I’ll keep these tips in mind. I’ve actually never gotten a facial before, but I want one. I know my skin could use it.
These are some great tips, i have to admit I’ve never thought of the care I should be giving my skin after a facial I just carry on as usual. Which now I think about it probably isn’t the best idea.
I wear sunscreen everyday in the summer, but I definitely could be better about wearing it in the fall and winter! Great reminder here!

YES TO THIS POST! Using spf after a facial is key! Ugh I definitely need to get a facial soon, thanks for the reminder! Great post!
I know that the gentle ones are best for my skin. I get eczema in the winter so these are always best.
I really want to get a facial soon. Maybe for my birthday coming up. It’s been too long.
Great article, moisturizing your skin is ultra important as you will look younger. Using sunblock is something that I just incorporated into my skincare routine because even melaniated skin needs to be protected too!
I’ve never had a facial and didn’t realize there were things you had to do afterward. Now I know.
These fashion / beauty tips will go a long way to create the perfect look.
I’m horrible at the sun-screen part! I need a light formula, that is not sticky and tacky.
Great informative way to keep up with a facial because that was just the start it wasnt a permanent solution. I definitely co-sign to natural facial products and regimens because you dont want to ruin the facial with chemical laced products that can irritate your face.
This article is very informative. Sometimes we might think that after a facial, we don’t need anything else. But your recommendations are really worth considering.
Unfortunately, I find facials bring me out in lots of spots and this always puts me off. Good points though! Perhaps I’ll put them to the test 🙂
I love reading makeup and skincare tips, there is always so much to learn. This one was wow…
Your skin after a facial is the best… but so sensitive! Great suggestions.
These are great tips for caring for your skin after a facial. My skin is always super duper sensitive (even before having a facial) so being gentle with my skin and using sunscreen post facial are very important. Great post!
Wearing sunscreen and moisturizing is the key! Great tips
Wow, didn’t know so much needed to be done ‘after’ a facial. I always thought that was that just followed by a nightly skincare routine. Thanks for the advice.
