Jane sits on a stool in her kitchen, moping over Owen’s sudden disappearance. Stacy tries to get her to express her feelings, but Jane does not want to talk and gets upset. Jane’s mom comes to visit, and tries to find out what’s wrong with Jane. She’s also tells Jane that Chloe, the girl Jane used to babysit, needs her help after being accused of murder. There is incriminating evidence linking the 16-year-old with the victim (Britney). But Chloe holds true to her innocence–wanting to prove she didn’t commit the crime.
Trying to get the text evidence dismissed, Jane has her own Mom text the prosecutor, using his wife’s phone. However, it’s a temporary victory, as the prosecutor gets angry and decides to charge Chloe as an adult. The evidence against Chloe doesn’t look good either, so Jane tries to convince her to take the plea, but Chloe refuses. Elsewhere, Stacy and Teri are trying to find Chloe’s dad, to make him pay for the expenses. But it seems like he’s vanished from the face of the earth. On the search, Teri and Stacy discuss Owen and complain about Jane not wanting to talk about him. Teri shows Stacy a credit card statement placing Owen at a motel in Minneapolis.
Although Owen is temporarily out of the picture, it’s not smooth sailing for Jane and Grayson shippers. Grayson meets Gina at a restaurant. But Gina questions whether Parker put Grayson up to it. And just when she gets up to leave, he decides to ask her out to a different restaurant. Later on, Grayson tells Parker the dinner was a great idea.
Jane works her case, as the prosecutor puts a witness in the stand to testify that the murderer wore a yellow team jacket, just like Chloe’s. But Jane easily proves that anyone can purchase the same yellow jacket online. Then the prosecutor snowballs her by showing the missing zipper tab found at the bottom of the pool. Jane confronts Chloe with facts putting her younger sister, Michelle, near the murder. Despite this, Chloe insist on leaving her sister out of it.
Yet Kim takes the matters in her own hands, and against Jane and Chloe’s wishes, decides to prove Chloe’s 14-year-old sister was by the school at the time of the murder. Now the D.A. wants to arrest Michelle for murder. So they drop Chloe as a suspect. Jane speaks to Michelle and finds out she was near the school because she was seeing a guy and smoking pot there. She also happen to go to the school because the road was closed due to a fire. With this information, Jane realizes who the real killer is. She puts Peg (Chloe and Michelle’s Mom) on the stand. Asking once again how she went to the market if the road was closed.Eventually Peg confesses to killing Britney and gets arrested.
But that’s not all. We find out that Peg also murdered her husband years ago, and buried him in their backyard after he threatened to leave her. What a twist!
Jane and her mom meet up with Teri and Stacy. They have a bonfire and Owen’s gifts. They tell her that Owen has been dating his college girlfriend. Finally, Jane opens up about Owen and decides she has to move on. So she burns a picture with her and Owen.
After Owen’s proposal, we wondered if Jane and Grayson would ever get the chance to be together? Guess will have to wait and see what’s in store for these two on Drop Dead Diva.
