On this week episode of Drop Dead Diva, Stacy, Paul and Jane are discussing Jane’s possible future with Owen, when he suddenly shows up at her door. But he doesn’t come alone. Brad Pines, a chemistry grad student whose professor was arrested for trying to smuggle drugs out of the country, is in tow. It turns out he was supposed to be going to a conference in Prague, but is now held up in the airport. So Jane gets her bag to go with them when Stacy slips a tidbit of advice, telling her to touch Owen and see if she feels a spark so she’ll finally know if he’s the one.
Kim has a case about a computer fantasy game called ‘Forever More’. Lady’s boyfriend Craig created the game, but he was killed in a car accident almost two years ago. Craig’s parents want to claim his estate because the game could be worth millions. Although Lady and Craig were together for 8 years, California doesn’t recognize Common Law marriage, so the parents are entitled to everything. Kim and her client go to the probate meeting together.
Jane meets with the professor, where he admits he has a girlfriend named Melody who asked him to bring a bag to her. A friend of Melody dropped off the bag, but there was nothing but clothes inside when he checked. They now have proof that he had no knowledge of the drugs in the bag.
In the elevator, Jane tries to touch Owen but he moves his hand to look at his watch. As he looks at his phone, she tries to touch him again, but ends up breaking her heel instead. Owen just walks out of the elevator distracted and ask if she’s okay. She quickly assures him she’s fine, and walks out limping. That’s our Jane, always a diva!
At court, we find out Jane and Owen’s new client was found with a kilo of methamphetamines, and charged with possession and attempt to distribute. He is held without bail. He wonders why Melody hasn’t been contacted. It turns out, the professor and Melody have never met each other, they’ve only communicated through instant messaging and emails.
To help with the case, the Professor‘s assistant brings Jane the external drive from her client’s computer.
Kim and her client June Frazier are doing their best to prove June has a claim to Craig’s estate under Palimony Law. Kim is not thrill the opposing lawyer is Vanessa, Grayson ex.
Unfortunately, the defendant insists Palimony Law does not apply. It looks like Kim has a lot of work ahead of her. Finding out about the opposing side, Grayson helps Kim on how to argue June’s case. They decide to focus their case on who was the co-creator of the game.
Stacy and Jane discuss Stacy’s sperm donor party and Jane’s case. Stacy helps search for Melody in a Rainforest website. However, the shocker is when the picture of Melody turns out to be of Deb. As Owen is talking with the professor, Jane walks in and tells him that Melody Lanthum doesn’t exist. He is shocked. Jane shows him the picture of Deb, and he confirms that it’s Melody. But Jane tells him it is Deb Dobkins, a model who died several years ago. She tells him he has been “Catfished”. They now must convince the judge that the professor is a victim of a hoax.
Grayson walks in with drawings from June in order to prove that she is a co-creator of “Forever More’. This makes Vanessa loose her focus. Vanessa tells Kim that Craig’s parents are willing to give June fifty thousand to avoid her pursuing her claim.
Grayson meets up with Vanessa, and they discuss why she left him at the wedding. She tells him she’s heard about Owen and Jane’s breakup, but he’s confused as to why that has anything to do with him. She just looks at him, and tells him it was nice to see him again—insinuating she knows about Grayson’s feelings for Jane.
Once again Owen is knocking at Jane’s home, this time it is to talk about her handling the case. As they speak, Stacy begins checking off things from her sperm donor list. Hmmm?
Kim and June talk about how 50,000 is a lot of money, and what Craig would have wanted, when the verdict comes in. Unfortunately, they rule against June, so Craig’s parents get everything. June decides to get pregnant because she feels that is what Craig would have wanted her to do. Kim tells her if she would have done it sooner the baby would have been entitled to the estate, but June wasn’t ready for that then.
As Jane looks at the photograph of Deb, Stacy walks in. She notices the blouse in the photo was hers. Jane had borrowed it and never returned it. Jane asks her if she knows when so she can figure out when the photo was taken. Stacy’s tells her Grayson took the photo at their five-year high school reunion.
June comes running into Kim office. It seems Craig’s parents have blocked her from having access to her embryos. Kim wants to get to the bottom of this, since she suspects something else is going on.
Jane shows Grayson the picture of Deb. He says he remembers taking it, and he also remembers her being a little tipsy. So much so that when she tried to say purple it came out as… but Jane finishes the sentence by saying Burple. Grayson gives her a strange look. Jane quickly tries to cover her tracks, by saying it was a very common mistake. Oh Oh! As Jane bent down to look at the computer, she gets a spark off of Grayson. But he brushes it off by saying it was the carpet static. He shows her the picture before it was photo shopped. She now knows whom ‘catfished’ the professor.
Jane goes straight to Beth and confronts her, however Beth denies it. Jane questions her about the photo of Deb. Beth tells her that she was in school with Deb, but unlike Deb, she was not popular and beautiful. Beth does recognize the clothing in the professor’s bag, as her clothes. Turns out she had left them in her boyfriend’s home. The ex-boyfriend happens to be Brad Pines, the one and only grad student. He was the one who called in the anonymous phone call. He wanted to destroy Professor Kane, so he used software called middleman to intercept emails between Beth and the Professor. Brad was angry with the Professor because he was denied a grant and called his work sloppy. He is arrested and all charges on the professor are dropped.
At court, Kim asks the judge to grant her client access to her embryo since under the stature she is entitled to everything because Craig’s death certificate was delayed due to his hit and run investigation.
Elsewhere, Owen and Jane are looking like they are not meant for each other. Stacy tells Jane unexpectedly that she chooses Owen to be her child’s biological father. Ouch! Jane just walks out of the room. Guess we’ll have to wait and see what’s next. Will Jane be all right with Stacy’s decision?
