[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t is easy to get stuck in the routine, and find ourselves bored or uninspired. This extends to our home. It is no wonder many of us feel a dark cloud come upon us the moment we step inside our home. And instead of the sanctuary our place should be, it can be the opposite. While this can be frustrating, we have the solution: remodel. Taking on a DIY remodeling project once in a while can work wonders on freshening our space.
A popular room to redecorate in the home is the bathroom since it is one of the rooms we most use—all the amenities included. As a result, the bathroom can become worn out faster than other places in our home. But how do we go about changing up this space? Simple. We have five great strategies to optimize our remodeling project, and update our dull bathrooms.

Now that we have decided to remodel our bathrooms, it is time to update the storage area. There can be several changes that have occurred since we last redid our bathrooms. Either we have new roommate(s), a partner or our kids have simply grown up. Whatever the circumstances, we need to consider storage space based on our current needs.
For instance, if sharing a house with several flatmates, having plenty of storage cabinets is crucial. This also extends to our kids, especially if they are now teenagers since they will want their own private space. If this DIY project takes more time than we can afford or we just need the added help, there are plenty of businesses that offer professional small bathroom renovation services.

How many times have we applied our makeup or style our hair in the morning, only to realize we have bit of mascara smudged under eyes and our top knot is slanted because of our poor lighting at home. In order to our bathroom sessions brighter (and cozier), the must step is to improve the lighting of the bathroom. A great tip is to install a light above the mirror this way we have light shining directly down. Now to create a more intimate atmosphere, consider installing a lamp with a dimmer in the bathroom. This is perfect for those nights we want to have a little soak in the tub.

Bathrooms are extremely sensitive when it comes to mold and damp. In order to keep the bathroom safe from these two nuisances, we should have our ventilation system checked and cleaned if necessary. A proper airflow will not only protect the health of our bathrooms, but will avoid long term expenses.

If we are trying to remodel our bathrooms on a budget, retiling isn’t always an option. But an alternative is to thoroughly clean the existing tiles and replace the ones that are cracked or damaged. The tiles surrounding the bath are usually the ones, which suffer the most impact from water and calcium pile-ups. Also, regular tile cleaning is important as this can keep the tiles fresh and looking clean.

For those of us with any wood surfaces in our bathroom, such as shelves or old cabinets, we know this one of the first things that can show aging. So when we begin our remodel, it’s important to take the necessary protective measures to keep the wood long lasting, and esthetically pleasing. Our wooden cabinets can become cracked, and the paint chip off, due to years and years of exposure to damp conditions. We will be surprised with what a fresh coat of paint and varnish to our wood will do to the overall look and feel of our bathrooms.
