Spring is one of our favorite seasons to try something new with our hair, whether it’s an edgier haircut, a trendy hairstyle or playing around with a different hair color. This time around we wanted to go lighter for spring and summer, so we picked up a box of blond hair color specifically meant for dark hair from our local drugstore to see if we could get our hair to a nice blond shade. Fast-forward 40 minutes later, our hair was not only a bright orange & blond hybrid color but our once healthy hair was now dry and damaged. There was no question that we would have to recolor our hair, but we had no clue how we were going to restore our locks back to their healthy state. And then came the Kenra Platinum Revive System in the mail, which claimed to reduce breakage up to 95 percent, and we were both excited and skeptical. Now with a few weeks of using the five products in the Revive System line, we finally have brought you our in-depth review of this revive system.[large_title title=”About the Revive System”] Kenra Platinum Revive Shampoo and Conditioner: Both shampoo and conditioner help to repair and restore the elasticity of the hair cuticle from within for up to 95 % less breakage just after the first use. As you can see, our hair was already damaged by the initial orange-blond hair color, and we had yet to recolor our hair. The ends in particular were coarse, dry and very fragile. Once we dyed our hair a soft light brown color, we allowed our hair to rest for a day before beginning the Revive system from Kenra.
We began with the Kenra Platinum Revive Shampoo. Squeezing out shampoo the size of a quarter on our palm and began to work the product until we got a lather in our hair. We then rinsed the hair until there no more shampoo.
Next up was the conditioner. We again squeeze some of the conditioner (no more than the size of a quarter) on our palm, only this time we focused on saturating the product on our ends and working towards our scalp. We left the conditioner on our hair for 2-3 minutes, and then rinsed it off.
To add more needed moisture we squeezed a bit of the hair masque on our finger tips and worked it on our ends and upwards, making sure to really saturate the hair. Leave in hair for at least 5 to 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water.
We took a towel and lightly dried the hair until it was still damp but not dripping with water. We took two pumps of the fortifier and applied it in our damp hair starting with the ends and working it up to our scalp. We immediately ran a brush through our hair to avoid any tangles and distribute the product evenly.
After letting the hair dry naturally and then proceeding to straighten the hair, we followed up our now styled hair with a small pump of the Revive oil and ran it through our hair for an added shine.[large_title title=”The Verdict”]
We are the first to admit that we can be picky when it comes to hair care, especially as we have naturally frizzy, curly and unruly hair. Often times, hair products combats only one our hair problems or there are no noticeable results at all. But from the first shampoo wash, we noticed a gradual improvement to the hair with the Kenra Platinum Revive System.
Let’s start with the Kenra Platinum Revive Shampoo and Conditioner. At first we were concerned with the size of the shampoo and conditioner as they are only 8.5 fluid ounces each. Our hair is thick and so it absorbs a lot of product. But we only needed a quarter size of shampoo to completely lather our hair. This is especially rare in shampoos with no Parabens, Sulfates or Sodium Chloride. Our hair felt clean after rinsing out the product and not dry, which is usually an issue we face using shampoo in general.
The conditioner was the same story as the shampoo. We only need a tiny bit of product to cover our thick, shoulder-length hair. While we usually love conditioners with a sweet scent, we actually really enjoyed the light, fresh scent of both the conditioner and shampoo.
Next we tried the Kenra Platinum Revive Treatment. This is basically a deep conditioner and hair treatment in one. Unlike the shampoo and conditioner, we weren’t sure how much product to put on our hair, as there is no recommended amount on the packaging itself. It simply says to saturate the ends. And so we definitely squeezed out quite a bit of this product to really saturate the ends, which is generally what we need to do with most hair treatments.
We noticed an immediate improvement in our hair just by using the shampoo, conditioner and hair treatment on the first use. Our hair felt soft, clean and definitely more hydrated than before.
It was recommended that we apply the Revive Complex while our hair was damp so we applied a bit of the product in our hair. While the revive system has no mention of improving tangles, we felt that our hair was easier to brush out. Even after letting our hair dry, we could still feel our strands smoother and less brittle.
Even flatironing the hair was quicker than usual. Maybe it was the built-in thermal protection in the Revive Complex but we definitely felt our hair supple and less coarse by the heat.
Last step in the Revive System was to run a bit of the Kenra Platinum Revive Oil through out hair.
The finishing results were shocking. Our hair looked like we had just stepped outside of a professional salon instead of our own shower. We just couldn’t believe how healthy our hair looked even despite using heat in our hair.
But before we got too ahead of ourselves, we wanted to continue to testing out the Revive System and see if we could get the results after several weeks of use.
Fast forward Two weeks later…
With just over two weeks of using the Kenra Platinum Revive System, the positive results in our hair continues to impress us more and more. The severe breakage and damage in our hair has minimized significantly. Our hair has a healthy radiance that continues to shine through from root to ends.
Overall, we can’t say any negative things about the Kenra Platinum Revive System despite the slightly steeper price. However, the amazing results make it more than worth the price tag. It has truly worked miracles in salvaging it from the harsh chemicals of hair dyes, heat tools and hot climate. And the best part is that revive system helps from within the hair cuticles and work outward, therefore ensuring the results are long term.
Would we recommend the products?
Absolutely! We highly recommend checking out the entire Kenra Platinum Revive system if you color your hair often and/or dealing with damaged, unhealthy hair.
