Summer is right around the corner. So it’s time to say goodbye to heavy makeup. Now we could easily go out to the drugstore and pick up our summer essentials. But why not take on a few beauty DIY projects. Not only are they easy to do, they’re also budget-friendly.
1. Tinted Moisturizer
Now days many companies carry them in their line. Some popular ones include cult favorite Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer , and Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30. While there are great tinted moisturizers out in the market, they can be pricey. Not to mention, finding the ‘perfect’ one for your skin needs.
The easy solution is to make our own. A tinted moisturizer is a basically a moisturizer and light coverage foundation in one. And that’s why making our very own is so easy. All takes is combining our favorite foundation and moisturizer, mixing them together, and voila! We now have the right one for us. Plus, the products were already in our makeup collection.
Items Needed
- Our favorite liquid or cream foundation
- A light to medium weight moisturizer with sunscreen.
- A small airtight container
- A spoon to mix
Instructions
- In the small container pour out as much moisturizer as it would take to hydrate the face.
- Gradually add a few drops of foundation to the container until satisfied with the amount of coverage.
- Next take the spoon and really mix everything together.
- Once all is blended, it’s ready to be applied.
2. Bronzing Lotion
With winter a distant memory, tans are the perfect way to say hello to summer. But finding the ‘summer glow’ isn’t as straightforward. Many times, a tan gone wrong can be the difference between a JLo goddess look and an oompa lumpa. No one wants to be orange (not even Snooki). Now we could make it our mission to test out all the different bronzing lotions, but why waste the time or money. Making our own bronzing lotion is as easy as one, two, three.
Items Needed
- Our favorite lotion (preferably a light one)
- Liquid, crème or mineral bronzer
- A sunscreen lotion
- A small bowl
- A spoon
- A small container or bottle
Ingredients
- In a small bowl, squirt about 3 tablespoons of the lotion.
- Add the liquid, crème or mineral bronzer (definitely crush powder bronzer beforehand).
- For extra protection, add a bit of sunscreen.
- Use the spoon and mix it all together until everything is nicely mixed together.
- Pour the bronzing lotion in a small container or bottle.
- Apply all over the body or wherever desired.
3. Cheek & Lip Stain
Powders are not the most practical makeup to use in the summer, especially since we tend to sweat it off in no time. So liquid and crèmes are definitely our friends. Not only will they fend better in hot weather, but we’ll look more natural. A great alternative to powder blushes is crème blushes and stains. They look and feel more fresh on the skin. We’ve found a great way to use natural products to make a great double-duty cheek and lip stain.
Items Needed
- A small beet, peeled and sliced
- 1 Tsp of raw honey (regular is fine)
- 2 Tbsp of coconut oil
- A double boiler (or pot with boiling water and a separate oven-safe bowl)
- A small container
Instructions
- Pour water in the bottom part of a double boiler and bring to a boil.
- In the top part, place coconut oil and beets. If using a regular pot, take a oven-safe glass bowl and place it on top of the boiling pot. And put in the coconut oil and beets in the glass bowl.
- Let the two simmer for about 20 minutes before taking it off the stove.
- Stir in the honey and let it cool at room temperature.
- Once cool, discard the beet slices.
- Pour final mixture to the small container.
- Keep in the fridge for 3 weeks.
4. Sea Salt Spray for Beach Waves
No one rocks beach waves like Jennifer Aniston. It’s hippy and beach goddess all wrapped in one. The best part, there’s no slaving away with a curling iron or straightener for these loose . There’s plenty of products out thereto help get those desired beach waves, but we can easily get the same result in fraction of the cost.
Items Needed
- 1 cup of filter water
- 5 -6 Tbls of salt (kosher or sea salt preferred)
- A tsp of our favorite hair gel
- An empty spray bottle
Ingredients
- Take a clean, empty spray bottle and fill it up with 1 cup of water.
- Next add the salt and shake.
- To give the hair a bit more texture, add a bit of hair gel to the salt water, and shake it once again.
- Spray liberally all over damp hair. Make sure to scrunch the hair to get the curls going. Let the hair dry naturally.
