Even though we’re almost a month into the new year, there is no reason you can’t start making a few updates to your current skincare routine in 2019. Now we know that it can be overwhelming at first to figure out where to start and what to change up, which is why we are sharing some of our favorite skincare tips on how you can get smoother, healthier, and glowing skin in the new year.
Night time habits
After a long day at work, your skin may be showing some wear. A great way to spark up your skincare is to implement a new bedtime skin routine. Start by taking off your makeup thoroughly with a good quality makeup removal. Don’t use any rough oils or creams that can strip your skin. Try micellar water as it can be great on the skin. After you have taken off your makeup, wash your face, and follow it up with a good eye cream, serum, and night cream as well.
Suncream is a must
It goes without saying that sunscreen is a must when it comes to protecting our skin from those damaging rays. This year make wearing suncream all day a priority, even when it’s not summer or scorching hot. Why you might wonder? First of all, it will protect your skin, of course. Second, since sun exposure can cause premature aging, wearing suncream under your makeup will prevent dark spots, skin discoloration, and red veins from showing. So head over to the store and pick up a bottle of SPF.
Better be safe than sorry
Remember, your skin is a top priority. That is why the beginning of the 2019 is a fantastic time to start focusing on anti-aging. Worries, stress, and even sun exposure can bring wrinkles and hyperpigmentation if proper care isn’t used. The great thing is that there are numerous products on the market from moisturizers, jade rollers to vitamins and more.
No-picking tactic
Many of us just can’t seem to avoid pimple popping. But that must come to an end. Resisting the temptation to pop a pimple or blackhead can be hard, but possible. This year try to apply topical acne treatment creams on affected areas, keep tools hygienic, and incorporate more beauty products that have good, clean ingredients. Or course, cleanse your face more often.
Enforce the exfoliation
If your dream is to have clear, smooth and nurtured skin, then exfoliation is key. There is no better way to get rid of old and dead skin cells, debris, and dirt than by an exfoliant. To get that glowing, fresh and healthy-looking skin this year, use a good physical or chemical exfoliator as they can clean out all your pores and remove those nasty dead skin cells. Which type of exfoliant will depend on your skin type. However, we do enjoy gel like exfoliants since they tend to be less abrasive on the skin. Just bear in mind not to overdo exfoliation because it can throw out your skin’s pH balance. Go for no more than one to two times per week.
Drink plenty of water
Drinking water is absolutely essential to our wellbeing, especially for the skin. So we can’t stress enough the importance of drinking more water in 2019. Besides being healthy for your body, water helps flush out the toxins and gives your skin clearer and brighter complexion. It’s amazing how getting your recommended daily intake of water can work wonders on the skin.
Cleanse your kit
There might have been times that you have forgotten to clean your makeup brush and tools. But not anymore! It is 2019 and it’s time to set a goal and a schedule for cleaning your makeup brushes once a week. By keeping your tools clean you limit your skin’s exposure to various bacterias that can result to several skin issues.
Here’s to making 2019 the year of great skin.

I always make sure I stay hydrated. I have no issues with drinking plain water and I drink a lot during the day. Being diabetic, I am always thirsty so I guess that is good in a way. I just have to work on reducing stress so it won’t show up on my skin as wrinkles and break outs.
I have had such a bad break out recently and I really need to get into a skincare routine. Thank you for your tips to start me off!

Another one I’d like to add to the list is exercise, especially exercise that gets your heart pumping. It gives you a very dewy, and youthful glow. The one thing I definitely need to be better about is the exfoliation.
