On this week’s Drop Dead Diva, Jane has the chance to help Beth, a friend of Owen, whose 15 year old daughter is in a coma due to a drug overdose or so we think. The lawsuit is for gross negligence against Rave promoters Dennis Fullman. Jane will do everything in her power to make sure this doesn’t happen again
In Kim and Grayson’s case, Dan (their client), wants visitation rights to see his son Charlie. He is the sperm donor and his friend Carrie is the mother of the child. Shehas a fiancé who does not want Dan to have any rights at all of the kid. He is willing to do anything to stop him. But Dan made it perfectly clear that he wanted to be a part of the baby’s life. While Kim is talking with Dan, officers come in to arrest him. Turns out, Carrie’s fiancé Rick has Dan arrested for donating sperm and fathering five children. Now Kim has to get him out of Jail and proof donating sperm is not illegal.
Stacy is doing Jane’s wedding list and they need the address of Owen’s dad. Stacy goes to Owen with a bogus story so she can try and get Owen to say why he hasn’t kept in touch with his dad. Yet, Owen figures out what Stacy is doing, so he tells her a lie, using the field of dreams reference. Stacy believes it and tells Jane. Jane tells her it’s the plot of the movie to Field of Dreams but she thanks her for trying. While still talking with Stacy, there is a knock at the door, Jane receives a note. She opens it and realizes it is a death threat against Owen. So Jane get the presiding judge to assign a judicial security detail on Owen. But She doesn’t want Owen to know because of his heart condition.
As Jane continues to plan her wedding, she asks Luke and Terri to pretend to be the bride and groom and go meet with a famous caterer, which she so badly wants for her wedding. But they end up making a mess out of it and the caterer refuses to do the wedding because he only works with couples are really in love. Eventually Teri and Luke fix it by confessing that Jane and Owen were busy with a case.
On the stand, Carla, Jenny’s friend, testifies that EMT took half an hour to get to Jenny. Carla admits her friend had an ecstasy tablet in her pocket. She also admits she planned to buy drugs for herself and her friend. This doesn’t look good for their defense.
Owen and Jane go to the hospital and find out Jenny has died. Beth is devastated. Now they wonder what to do about the case. As they talk about it, Carla comes in and tells them not to worry about her and to continue the case because no one was there to help Jenny.
Kim goes to speak to the FDA, who is pursuing the case against Dan. They used the law of banning human tissue trafficking as a defense. The FDA regulates all human tissue, meaning it includes sperm. Kim said he has to go after every free site for women wanting sperm donors and start arresting them. So the FDA drops the case. But Dan gets arrested again, this time for being gay and donating sperm. It’s illegal for a man to donate sperm if he has had sex with a man in the past 5 years. Dan gets tested every month, so he is doing the right thing. Kim is getting frustrated all because Carrie’s fiancé is relentless. Unsurprisingly, Parker offers the solution. He asks Kim, “Does the government have the right to throw you in jail because of how you procreate.” Now with the proof to win the case, she thanks Parker for his help.
Kim ask the arresting officer how he procreated, but he tells her it’s none of her business. She then goes to prove how one procreates is a private business and the government should not get involved. With the ball back on her court, she wins her case. Afterwards, Carrie breaks up with Rick and gives Dan visitation rights.
They find out Jenny didn’t OD, she died of dehydration. Owen goes to the coliseum to figure out why the kids have to wait in line to buy water, when there are a bunch of water fountains. It turns out all the fountains were shut off. So Owen and Jane go investigate Clearcalm Water Bottle Company and find out the company was selling water bottles for $10. It so happens, Councilman Phillips owns Clearcalm water. He’s also in cahoots with the promoter of the RAVE.
Councilman Philip is put on the stand. Jane asks if he was aware that all the water fountains were being fixed at the coliseum. Jenny Evans is dead because she couldn’t drink water. We find out the Councilman made the threat against Owen. The councilman evokes his first amendment rights. Jane tells him he’ll be charged for homicidal negligence.
Later on, Luke and Jane are talking. She wants to tell Owen the truth of who she is. Luke tells her it’s a good idea. But it’s clear he’s being obnoxious. Luke also tells Jane Owen is in love with her.
Owen tells her about his dad and how he didn’t want his dad to get married to his third wife, but he now feels like a complete jerk for opposing his dad’s decision. But it seems like father and son have made amends since Owen’s dad will be coming to the wedding. Owen also doesn’t want there to be secrets between him and Jane. And here is where we think Jane will tell him the truth. But instead, she changes her mind and says, “I Love You”. Wow! For a second there we had to catch our breath. Now the question is will Jane ever tell Owen? We will find out next week divas, so stick around!
