Drop Dead Diva Season 6 Episode 4 Recap

On this week’s episode of Drop Dead Diva, Grayson and Jane are thrown together to work on a case that hits a little too close to home, especially after Jane’s big secret reveal earlier in the season.

Jane is absolutely flustered by the fact that today is the first day she will work alongside Grayson as Deb. Even to the point where she starts to wonder about what perfume to wear for Grayson. Luckily Stacy steps in to solve the problem by misting her with both perfumes.

Kim stops for coffee on her way to work, and begins to ogle her baby on her phone. She is so mesmerized on the way back to her car, she gets startled by a little boy and ends up dropping her coffee. The kid apologizes for startling her, and then asks her if she can adopt him.

As Jane walks into the office, Grayson introduces her to his friend, Seth Coyle. But as they are talking, Jane has a memory of Grayson meeting Seth in the 8th grade on a basketball team. Seth is wondering how she knows this, but Grayson covers it up by saying he told her about the time Seth gave him a black eye. Seth enlists Grayson’s help to fulfill his wife Rachel’s last dying wish to be buried in their backyard. They had even planted a garden together. However, Rachel’s parents want her buried in their family plot. Jane argues that under California law the spouse has the right to make burial decisions. Grayson wants to set up a meeting with Seth’s in-laws so they can try to work together.

Kim goes to Owen for help with the little boy named Ryan, who has been living with five other boys in a group foster home. It is funny to see Owen’s reaction when Ryan said he followed Kim from the coffee shop because she seemed so sweet and kind with her baby. Ryan wants real parents, he has been in the system his whole life. He is now 12 years old and doesn’t understand why he doesn’t have real parents. Owen tells Ryan that once a kid is older it is harder to get adopted. Even though Owen doesn’t feel like he can help, Kim is sure they can come up with a solution.

Grayson and Jane are in court to see if they can give Rachel her dying wish, but the parents are unwilling to do so. They will now have to take the case to court, especially after finding out Rachel granted her dad power of attorney. Jane and Grayson can’t agree on whether Seth should drop the case or not. Jane wants Seth to drop the case, Grayson doesn’t agree. He says Seth promised to do this for Rachel. He brings out his Deb memories and how he felt when she died. He needed to feel close to Deb, so that is why he needs to do this for Seth. Grayson ends up getting angry with Jane when she still wants to talk to Seth, and he ends up forbidding her to do so. Upset about the situation, Jane goes to Stacy for comfort. Stacy tries to assure her saying that Grayson is still adjusting.

At the adoption agency, Kim and Owen find out Ryan is no longer in the system. They find out there was a data entry error saying Ryan was 17 years old. Kim is upset and wants him back in the system immediately.

Elsewhere, Grayson argues that the induction be lifted from prohibiting his client to take his wife’s body from the mortuary. Judge disagrees because of the power of attorney, which Grayson argues it is only to be used in extreme measures to extend Rachel’s life and she didn’t want extreme measures. And since Rachel was never given the offer to accept the family plot, she never had to reject it. The judge ends up giving Seth access to Rachel’s body.

Kim argues in court that the clerical mistake caused Ryan from getting adopted. She wants the judge to give a third party rights to help Ryan find a family. The state say they will have him back in the registry at the end of the month, but Kim argues that he will be lost in the system. After going back and forth, the Judge finally relents and gives Kim the green light to proceed.

Paul buys a Rolls Royce for $100 dollars on the Internet. This cannot end well.

Things get worse for Grayson and Jane when they find out Seth’s father-in-law had an undertaker take Rachel’s body to another mortuary. Turns out the father-in-law had a judge intervene to prevent the backyard burial of Rachel’s body. Now Grayson and Jane have to go back to court. Fortunately, the Judge agrees to the case.

Stacy gives Owen and Kim an idea to do a video of Ryan asking to be adopted. Stacy tells Ryan to turn on the waterworks, which later on comes to good use for Kim. The video goes viral, and Kim’s office is full of potential parents for Ryan.

We knew a $100 dollar Rolls Royce was too far fetched, especially when the owner of the car turns up in the office demanding to get his car back. Teri threatens him, since the wife had the right to sell the car to whomever she wanted.

The State is giving Kim trouble with Ryan’s adoption as they insisting it will take 3 months. Kim starts crying, earning the judge’s sympathy and gets the judge to agree to speed up the process. Owen is worried for Kim and her emotional breakdown, but Kim shows him it was all an act. Kim is brilliant!

Unfortunately the two get another roadblock as the State claims he is 5 percent Sioux and has to follow Sioux law and move to South Dakota. Kim argues that Ryan’s mother was only 10 percent Sioux and his father had no Native American blood. Owen tells her a first-degree relation with the father would trump the Sioux rights. Kim goes to gather information on the father, who she believes he died in war.

Jane angers Grayson when she ends up talking to Seth without his consent. She asks him if he is mad at Deb or Jane. Once again Grayson tells Jane how he grieved for Deb, even so far as keeping a picture of Deb in his office even when he dated other women.

Ryan’s aunt Tessa tells Kim her brother is not Ryan’s dad because he wasn’t in the country at the time. She points Kim to Eddie Davis who Ryan’s mom was dating when she got pregnant.

Jane and Grayson realize they need to make their time together count. Finally! Jane decides to use religion to help Seth.

The owner of the Rolls Royce shows up with a bike for Paul, and Teri tells Paul to sign over the car and keys and the bike will be his. Paul is happy with this since he couldn’t actually afford the car.

Back at court, Jane says Seth and Rachel’s house will become a church and Seth will be the pastor. Seth address Rachel’s parents, letting them know how he loved her. The Judge approves the Church of Everlasting love. Now Seth can finally bury his wife.

Ryan’s real dad shows up to sign the documents for Ryan to get adopted, but before he’d like to meet him before. He tells Ryan that he is his real father, but Ryan is so confused since he thought his dad was dead. Ryan doesn’t really want his dad to go away, but still shakes his hand. Overwhelmed with emotion, the dad decides not sign the papers, and embraces his son. It was a very touching and beautiful happy ending.

For us Divas who love this couple, Grayson and Jane have one of the best heart to heart conversations, where Grayson tells her how he respected her as Deb and as Jane. He has also figured out a way to make every moment count. And drumroll…they end up in each other’s arms. Finally the kiss we’ve been waiting for, and we are definitely counting this one.
