Summer has brought cutoff shorts, straw hats and warm rays, but left many of us with dry hair. While spending time in the sun is great, it’s also damaging to our hair follicles. How do we fix it? There are many ways to help combat dry, coarse hair. Some include expensive Brazilian blowouts, others go the cheaper route: Hair masks. A DIY hair mask is a cheap, effective alternative to really kicking your hair back to shape. We’ve tested out a great hair mask we know you’ll love.
Things You’ll Need
(all ingredients are an approximate measurement).
- 3 Tbsp. Low Fat Mayo
- 2 Tbsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 3 Tbsp. Coconut Oil
- 1 Tsp. Moroccan Oil
- 1 Tbsp. Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioner
- 1 Brush/Comb
- 1 hair scrunchie
- 1 shower cap
Directions for Hair Mask
Take a spoon or knife and scoop about 3 tbsp of solid coconut oil. Add the coconut oil chunks in a small saucepan over low heat. It only takes a few seconds for the coconut oil to melt completely. Turn off the heat and move the saucepan aside to cool down for a minute.
In a shallow bowl, add the mayo, olive oil, coconut oil (melted), moroccan oil and the Aussie deep conditioner. Mix it well so everything is evenly combined.
PREP
Grab a brush and run it through the hair to take all the tangles out. Next take 2-4 hair clips (depending on hair length) and clip sections of our hair. This will help work the mask in the hair.
It’s time to scoop a bit of the mask on your hands and apply it to the roots first, making sure to really massage the mask into the hair. You can then move on to the scalp. Once the first section is done, move on the next section (and so forth).
After all the hair is covered, take a hair scrunchie and tie the hair up in a bun. Grab a cute shower cap and cover the hair with it. This will avoid any mask fallout that might occur.
Leave the mask on for at least an hour, and then wash it off. Viola!
Results
We should see and feel a difference in our hair after we’ve washed the mask off. It should be shinier, silkier and healthier than before. Do this mask once a week for optimal results.
A tip: Let the hair dry naturally instead of towel drying since this can be too rough on the hair.
