The first brand on our Inside Beauty Brand Series is Eyeslipsface or better known as E.L.f. Cosmetics. Launched in 2004, ELF has been offering a complete line of budget-friendly makeup and professional tools. With such a wide range of products, we’ve broken down our showcase in 3 categories: lips, face and cheeks. Let’s take a look at ELF’s lip products.

 

E.L.F Essential Lipsticks

One of the most popular products in the ELF line is their essential lipsticks. According to the ELF site, the  slightly scented elf essential lipsticks:

“Indulge your lips with long lasting color and shine. The moisture rich formula hydrates, conditions and softens on contact for silky smooth lips.”

Unlike other similar products in the same price point, the ELF essential lipsticks feel comfortable on the lips without the drying or tugging we’d expect for the $1 dollar price tag. As stated, these lipsticks do have a sweet fragrance to them, which some with sensitive skin might not like. However, we have no problem with the scent, and actually feel the application is more enjoyable. Besides the smooth formula, the lipsticks in this line have great color payoff. A few of the colors in this line do apply a bit more sheer (although still vibrant), but they are ideal for those wanting to have more control on how much color they want on their lips. We recommend trying a few of the lip colors as an introductory to ELF.

E.L.F Essential Lip Stain

It seems almost every brand out there has released lip stains in one form or the other. ELF is no exception.  The elf essential lip stains are said to get:

“beautiful precision color that lasts for hours with this pigment rich lip stain marker. The pen-like tip lets you draw on color easily for a streak & smudge free professional look. Infused with nourishing Vitamin E to hydrate and moisturize lips.”

With our hectic schedules, it’s no wonder why lip stains are a popular beauty products. Not only do they complete our look, but also give us a break from having to check our makeup as frequently. All it takes is one or two applications (depending on how much color we want) of the lip marker, and in seconds we’re done. While these are not waterproof, they do have a nice lasting power to them. Crimsom Crush is really great in between red color, perfect for those wanting to sport the classic red lip without feeling too bold.

Lip stains are not necessarily known for keeping the lips moisturized. In fact, they can often be very drying. Fortunately, the e.l.f. Essential Lip Stains do not have an overly dry sensation on the lips. But we definitely recommend a lip balm before to seal in the moisture a bit more. The finish on these stains are matte so we also suggest adding a favorite lip gloss on top.

E.L.F. Essential Lip Balm Tint

These e.l.f. Essential Lip Balm Tints remind us a great deal of the MAC Tinted Lip Conditioners. They are described as:

This lightly tinted lip balm gives the perfect flush of color for a beautiful, natural look. The Coconut, Grape, Shea Butter and Rice Wax infused formula conditions lips on contact for long-lasting, hydrating comfort.

Despite the fact that they’re targeted as lip balms, these are actually more or less lip glosses. They have the glossy texture and slight tackiness we’d expect to find in a lip gloss. However, we can definitely see this appeal to those wanting a lip product that is natural and ideal for every day. While these are sheer lip tints, we recommend trying Grapefruit and Berry  in the line since these are more opaque.  Colors like Peach and Nude are less so. Although, Peach looks intimidating in the jar, it’s actually quite sheer (can be built up a little). But what we love the most is how comfortable these the lips. They don’t leave the lips feeling overly glossy or overly dry nor do they leave residue on the lips. One of the drawbacks is the packaging itself. We wish these came in tube forms with an applicator tip for hygiene purposes. But a lip brush does solve this problem.
