[dropcap]I[/dropcap] recently had the opportunity to attend an exclusive beauty preview for Joico’s New Color Butters hosted by social media star and hair stylist extraordinaire Larisa Love at her beautiful salon in Studio City, California. There I was able to get a complete walk-through of the six color butters in the range, and really play with them first hand. I had so much fun previewing the collection that I wanted to give you an inside look at the beauty preview and the new products from Joico. So keep reading to get the scoop.
For those of you who have never been to Larisa Love Salon, you will be impressed at first glance. I know I was! Like the exterior, the inside of the salon has that urban chic with a soft rustic flair that immediately makes you feel posh without losing its warm, cozy vibe.
This is only further cemented by the salon’s very own owner Larisa Love. She was absolutely wonderful, welcoming me the moment I step foot inside, where undoubtedly hair magic happens. In fact, you know something magical in going to happen here when the words, “Do What You Love”–a motto Larisa lives by–are boldly displayed on the wall.
One of our favorite things about this beauty preview was how very hands everything was. And believe me this isn’t always the case.
Before seeing the live demonstration, I had the chance to do some fun spin art ( shout out to Kids Party LA) on the upper floor, using the Joico color butters. As I’ve mentioned before, there are six bright, vibrant shades which include pink, red, purple, green, blue, and titanium.
To start, I chose a teal note card and placed it on the spin machine. As the machine began to spin, I was told to begin pouring in any colors I wanted to start creating the spin art. I opted for red, blue and just the hint of purple. A few moments later and my spin art piece was born. Now I’m obsessed with spin art and these shades!
Seeing how vibrant the color butters were on paper made me that more excited to see them on actual hair. As I slowly made my way down to the first floor, I caught a glimpse of how the color butters look after application and styling.
I stepped closer and got lucky when Larisa herself explained how the product was used to give the client’s hair that gorgeous purple hue. One of the things she said that caught my attention was the fact that the color butters can add vibrancy to naturally blonde or pre-lightened hair and last up to 10 washes (this depends on hair care and texture ). As someone who gets restless with their hair quite easily, it’s great to see that I don’t have to fully commit to a permanent hair color if I don’t want to.
I was soon led to the back of the salon where influencers were given a set of black gloves, and a clipboard holding two clip-in extensions to start applying the color butters on the extensions themselves. The Joico team were on site to answer any questions regarding how to use the product, the longevity, what ingredients are used in the product and so forth.
When it was my turn to don my pair of black gloves and play with the different color butters, I was struck immediately was how rich and creamy it feels. This product, like the name suggest both moisturizes the hair follicles and adds a punch of color to the hair. The colors are absolutely gorgeous on the hair, and can have a range of color depth depending on how concentrated the color is applied. And for those who love a good ombre or multi-colored design, the Joico color butters can be layered or intermixed for different hair looks.
I got to pick out two color butters of my choice. I went for the blue and purple because I was told it would look great on my brunette locks. Along with the color butters, I was given a fabulous gift bag filled with some of Joico’s popular products, including one of my favorites the Joico K-PaK Color Therapy Luster Lock, and a delicious cake pop.
Before leaving the event and saying goodbye to the amazing Innovative PR and Joico teams, Larisa was so gracious and lovely to pose with the Joico color butters for one final photo. She seriously in one of the nicest and talented woman I’ve met. Talking to her even for a moment, her passion for her craft is undeniable and so inspirational.

I have never heard of her or color butters but it sounds like a fun product. My hair is black and I don’t like to dye it due to previous experiences – lots of damage. I wonder how this would work on dark hair!
Wow I love this! I recently went from natural brunette, to blonde, to pastel pink and finally back to brown but lord I wish I had heard about these sooner.
I love Joico products – they seem to disappoint. The colours are great, I love how they went with some really subtle pale colours & other bursts of colour. Definitely need to try out a butter & get the pink I’ve always wanted!

I hadn’t heard of colour butters before, I see from the website they only last about 10 shampoos which makes it a nice way to try out some more daring colours like pinks and blues. Still not sure I would have the courage to do this to my hair, but if I did this would be a great option!

I have never heard of color butter. Reminds me of the time my son dyed his hair with Kool Aid LOL.. brilliant idea and safe no toxins and with halloween fast approaching this would be a great item

The colors look gorgeous and I love that they are temporary. Great when I just want to change my look and not make it permanent. I definitely have to try the purple.

I frequently color my hair funky colors. These sound wonderful to play with and see what colors you like since they wash out after just 10 washes.

I haven’t dyed my hair in more than a decade and I kind of like it natural. I have some whites though so a touch up would be great!
