Makeup Artist James Vincent Reveals Beauty Trends for 2016

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]ttention all beauty enthusiasts and connoisseurs, I have quite the gold mine on my hands.  Makeup Artist James Vincent has been gracious to share his 2016 trends and tips with Modern Chic, and give us a glimpse into his brilliant mind.

James Vincent is the Director of Education and Artistry for The Makeup Show, but his extensive repertoire reaches far and wide. He has worked with many celebrities, makeup brands and makeup artists at all levels of the industry. His continual passion and knowledge of pure artistry is absolutely incredible. Alright makeup artists and makeup lovers, let’s dive into Vincent’s top 2016 beauty trends he has seen on the runway and red carpet. But he doesn’t stop there. Vincent shares valuable tips on how to make these trends suitable for everyone. “The makeup wearer will be able to make choices based on individuality, which is always exciting!” Vincent says.

[large_title title=”Trend 1: Blue Eyeliner”]

James’ Trend Alert: “Blue liner is back and can be the ideal way to get a sophisticated fashion look. The traditional cat eye look takes on a new life in shades of blue. A blue hue will whiten and brighten the eye. And lashes will lengthen too.”

He recommends NARS Eye Paint in Solomon Islands, a lovely turquoise blue paint with high-impact pigment. This vibrant blue can be used as an eye liner or all over eye color.

His Tip on How to Wear the Trend: “For a less dramatic subdued look, a blackened blue gel liner from CAO Cosmetics or Smashbox will also work well on everyone.”

James’ Trend Alert: “Lady Gaga has given us the idea and reason to try red eye shadow. While it seems unexpected, red can be a flattering look on the eyes when worked properly. Make Up For Ever has both cream and pressed shadows in warm red hues. This color can be worn across the lid or just as a liner.”

James’ Trend Alert: “The new crop of eyeliner pens allow for easy liquid and fluid lines with a kitten kick or more graphic looks. A favorite, Kat Von D’s ( www.katvondbeauty.com ) tattoo liner has the perfect, precise tip for the everyday look. Adventurous lines can be achieved too.”

His Tip on How to Wear the Trend: “Make Up For Ever and NARS have waterproof options. For those on a budget MustaeV and Crown Brush offer black liquid pens that allow anyone to try the look with confidence. However, if you are not comfortable with creating the perfect liner look, use a soft taupe shadow or pencil to perfect your shape and then trace over it with the black liner. This will give you a great guide and offer more dimension to elevate the liner look.”

James’ Trend Alert & Tip on How To Wear The Trend: “Mined metals like copper, bronze, and gold can give anyone a look that is great for Summer and right into Fall. James’ Trend Alert: “The classic vintage allure of red lips is timely and timeless. It can be worn by anyone, anywhere, and anytime.”

His Tip on How To Wear The Trend: “Try combining a bold blue-red lipstick with a warmer red gloss for a lip that can produce alluring results on everyone. Combining the two undertones makes the lips flattering for any face. If you are afraid to try a bold red, try staining in a gorgeous red gloss or in a more sheer application.”

His Product Recommendations: “A few of my favorites for lipstick are NARS Audacious Lipsticks and Besame Cosmetics Lipsticks with a vintage themed inspiration. Also, OCC‘s Liptar in NSFW. NSFW is a truly balanced red. And for lip gloss, Inglot has a wide array of universal shades.”

This season I have added NARS Audacious Lipsticks in Rita and Annabella. Rita is a knock out scarlet red, while Annabella is a mysterious poppy red.
