It seems the hype for BB creams is not over. More and more companies are bringing out their version of this widely popular all-in-one beauty balm. Olay Fresh Effects BB cream is no exception. They recently brought out their Influenster line, which includes a BB cream. The Missha is said to help hide cover up skin imperfections and minimize the need for foundation and concealer–leaving the skin glowing. We got the opportunity to test out the bb cream in our Skin79‘Sunkissed’ Summer VoxBox.
HOW TO APPLY
There’s no need for brushes when fingers are all we need. On the tube it tells us to apply liberally 15 minutes before we go out to the sun. So squirt a little at the back of the hand and then rub into the skin. This way you’ll be able to really rub it into the skin evenly. Just get more if needed. It does not take long for it to sink into the skin. Size: 2.5 FL oz
COVERAGE/ PERFORMANCE
The big difference we’ve noticed between Asian bb creams versus American bb creams is the coverage. Asian bb creams like Missha or Skin79 are more similar to a lightweight foundation as opposed to their american counterparts. The Olay bb cream has sheer color. While it’s marketed as a bb cream, it also states in the package that it’s a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen. Tinted moisturizer is a better description since this product covers very little on the skin, especially those with acne prone skin. This will not cancel some of the redness on the face. But might appeal to those who have clearer complexions and are simply looking to put some hydration and get sun protection on the face.

As you can see from the above photos, the bb cream has very little color to truly even the skin. There is a slight noticeable glow and hydration to the skin once applied to the face. If you have dry skin, you’ll appreciate the extra hydration, and slight dewiness. But if you have oily to combination skin, this might make your face look shiny. And while we might not have an issue with cream’s fragrance, those who dislike scents in beauty products or have sensitive skin will not like the heavy scent in this . Available Shades: Fair to Light and Light to Medium.
OVERALL
For those looking to try a bb cream for the first time, the Olay fresh effects bb cream is not for you. Not if you’re looking for a product to give you the same coverage as foundation without the heavy feeling. The color here applies too sheer to really cover up any discoloration or acne. No sugar coating the fact that this really is just a moisturizer with sunscreen (arguably with a slight tint at most). So it’s definitely not a bb cream. As a whole, the product falls short on delivering what it’s marketing. GRADE
