[dropcap]O[/dropcap]n Monday’s episode of Scorpion, the team is determined to prove themselves after they fail their training. Meanwhile, a bomb strike threatens the Internet infrastructure for the entire Southwest.
The show kicks off the episode with the geniuses doing what they do best when they need to unwind: solve rubiks cubes, listen to music and fix things. Cabe shows up and tells them they are running late. and he doesn’t understand how a team of geniuses can’t tell time. He tells them the future of the team depends on them being ready since they will have to prove to director Merrick that forming a group of geniuses is not a crazy idea, and they have what it takes. Walter agrees, and tells the team they need to do this
The team is taken to US military training facility to begin their training. Sylvester is scared, and doesn’t think he’s prepared. Walter assures him that he always has his back. Their mission is extract files from a computer in a bunker as quickly as possible. However Sylvester panics, and Walter steps in and gets the files. They then run out with the files only to find out that the team has been captured. The team’s performance is a disaster. Sylvester was too slow, Happy punches one of the captors, (something she wasn’t supposed to do), and Walter fails to follow orders. Merrick isn’t impressed, and tells Cabe he is pulling the plug on Scorpion.
When the team and Cabe return to the lair, Paige is shown the team’s bad performance report. Walter then tells her to find a way to “fix it.” Now that’s a tall order. Fortunately, Toby offers some insight on each member of the team. He tells her that Happy suffers from hostility and anger dissonance syndrome, Slyvester suffers from anxiety, OCD and other phobias, Walter suffers from text book intellectualmegolomania, while he is a narcissist with addiction tendencies. Looks like Paige will have her hands full learning to live in their world.
Cabe informs the team about a bomb that has taken a whole floor, including a law firm, but the team can’t tag along. Instead Cabe goes on his own to investigate, where he sees someone checking out the place. The person turns out to be an FSG Agent named Thomas Keeler. Cabe wants to know why the agent is assessing the building out in the open. Keeler explains that internet is down and they need it running. Just then the team walks in, and Keeler asks who they are. Cabe calls them independent contractors.
We find out the FSG stands for Federal Surveillance Group, and they analyze all communication and domestic data for security purposes. Walter explains that the so called intentional non-descript building, houses the heart cable to all communications. Sylvester believes someone knew about the seven millimeter fiber trunk cable in the air vents. The team believe this was all done intentionally. With the web down, everything from emergency services, the DWP, and more would eventually stop working since they would not have fresh water, traffic lights, etc.
Getting the web back to full service and catching the bomber is now the team’s mission. Happy gets to work immediately, getting the security footage up, while Walter orders a special router from Germany. They then get started on their Gaussian filter algorithm. Toby is able to narrow down the people until he is left with a white male with a hat and sunglasses.
Keeler tells them he will now rely on his technology and doesn’t want the team. Cabe reminds Walter to follow the chain of command, which Walter ignores.
The team sets out to do their own investigation. Sylvester uses his amazing mathematical skills to determine probabilities and potentialities. Happy uses a water bottle as a magnifying glass to look closely at the suspect’s picture, which happens to show the suspect has a turtle on his keychain. Toby knows a turtle racing place, and they go and question the bartender, who is reluctant to speak at first until Toby flashes Cabe’s badge.
Finally, they find out where the suspect lives. As they wait, Toby asks Walter why the Team even needs Paige, however Walter tells them that he sees something in her like he did in all of them. He believes Paige will thrive. Meanwhile, Happy makes a device to listen in to the suspect’s home right across from them. When they approach the home, the suspect happens to spot them as he comes out. He runs and they follow in pursuit. As continue their pursuit until the suspect stops, and just as he points his gun at Paige and Walter, a bus hits him. Cabe shows up to find out the suspect is in a com. Keeler is also angry, and plans to write them up for interfering with the investigation.
Somehow the team is back on the job when Keeler’s men can’t get through the firewall on the suspect’s laptop. Happy figures out there are more bombs, and sure enough we hear explosions. The bomber has hit a mall, a radio tower and an armored car. The last one they don’t get since it makes no sense. Paige realizes the armored trucks come in at different times, and since no one knows the exact times, she assumes the bomber put the bomb in the garbage to take out the building. Yes! Paige has proved her worth.
Continuing the investigation, Cabe makes a call to find out all the numbers from 939 Cocklin. Walter narrows it down to Greytech, which specializes in slow storage servers. Cabe calls the bombing a red herring as they are just hiding the real motives. It seems like someone is trying to cover something up. They find a file that belonged to a man named Frank Turner, who died 2 weeks ago from a hit and run. The car was never found. Cabe thinks those files must have something incriminating, since someone wants them erased.
Toby finds the router and the team finds out Turner was a member of the FSG, the agency Keeler works for. The information shows that Keeler had be spying on the White House and State Department. The only reason Keeler kept the Scorpion team was to keep an eye on them. We also find out he hired the bombers. With the copy of the file, Sylvester and Cabe are in the car when out of nowhere Keeler crashes into them. He knows they have a copy of the file. Cabe and Keeler end up fighting.
Meanwhile, Walter and the rest of the team are getting people out of the Greytech building after Happy finds out a bomb is set to explode in 5 minutes. Turns out Keeler wanted to make sure the last existing version of the file is destroyed. Since they can’t diffuse the bomb, Happy finds joint compound and salt packets and figures they can lessen the impact. They get everyone out and Walter stays behind. He comes out after the explosion, which to tell you the truth, was definitely pushing on the unbelievable. Despite all the effort, the laptop is ruined, and therefore they have no real evidence.
Just as we were about to throw in the towel, Sylvester’s photographic memory saves the day. He has memorized 30 pages worth of the information, and they can now write it all down. The team then go to pick up Ralph at school, and they all go out to eat together.
