[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he rustic style has been a very popular interior design for some time now as more and more people are incorporating it in their homes. The style is influenced by the rural way of living, and there are many natural elements that are implemented into every part of the house. You can expect to find earthly tones in the furniture, wall colors, and home decor. Also, natural textiles are often added to enhance the outdoor essence in the home such as leather furniture, natural rugs, wooden furniture and plants. This relaxed style is ideal for those looking to enjoy a dash of nature in their home. But knowing how and where to start can be overwhelming, which is why we are sharing fabulous interior design tips on how to get the ultimate rustic style in your home.
A great color palette
Forget about overly bright colors, bold color combinations and colorful patterns you’re used to seeing in other styles. If you’re going for the rustic design, your color choices need to be more subtle and gentle. Everything from dark chocolate to light beige can be combined with the classic white walls as a base. If you want to make something stand out, using colors like duck egg blue and canary yellow are great colors.
For a unique twist, play with different shades of one color which will give your room some additional depth. Always keep in mind that this style is all about comfort and relaxation, so go with a warm and cozy palette for every part of your house. Many people do stick to different shades of brown, there are also interesting hues of red, orange, and the yellow family that add that warmth factor.
Wood is a must

This is probably one of most prominent elements of the rustic interior. You’d be surprised with how little touches of wood improve a room. A simple way to incorporate this material is by adding wood flooring to open up space or better yet add it to your patio, for instance so it runs between your indoor and outdoor areas; thus connecting the indoor with the outdoor.
Those who like to try out new things can play with different types of furniture and add interesting vintage chairs and sofas, antique tables and old console tables. To make everything more stylish, you can install new timber sliding doors which will fit perfectly into your room design. Having a central piece like that is what the rustic style is all about – incorporating as much nature into your home as you can.
Rely on statement pieces
Another great and common characteristic of this design are wooden beams contrasted with white walls, or, alternatively, combined with dark colors to make them blend more naturally. This architectural element can be found in old houses and if you happen to have a beam in your home, be sure to make it a focal point in your room.
A great fireplace in your living room can also accentuate the room and make it feel more welcoming. We recommend using metal and copper elements, which can add a dose of shabby chic to your home. A great way to do so is to find furniture like tables, chairs and even shelves that have these materials or you can go the subtle route by opting for an interesting lamp, vase or other decorations for your living room. Trust us. Adding a rustic decor pieces here and there throughout your house can make all the difference.
Flooring and lighting

Go big or go home is the perfect mantra when it comes to setting up the lighting in your rustic home. Now you can start small by using different antique lamps to show off your personality, and therefore introduce this style slowly throughout your house. However if subtle isn’t your style, you can go big right from the start. One of our favorite ways to do so is by adding a big chandelier as a wow factor.
We have talked about wood floors already, but we can’t stress what a big difference they make to a home, especially if you’re aiming for that ultra rustic vibe. There are so many options from warm oak to bamboo you can choose from. This feature will add the character you’re looking for your rooms.
Tip: Before you start making all these changes and buying new furniture, look for the items you already have in your home. Rustic style always welcomes reupholstered and recycled pieces, and with a little bit of work, you can create unique features for your space.
