Romance is in the air, as Castle and Beckett prepare to go away together for the weekend. It’s not quite Castle, if there isn’t a bit of murder and drama thrown in the mix. And with a secret rendezvous between the two crime-fighting duo leads, there’s definitely some very juicy moments, especially when Castle shows up to pick up Beckett, and Ryan and Esposito show up. The guys are surprised by his arrival. Quick on his toes, Castle tells them he’s going to the Hamptons to write. Having no clue about Beckett and Castle’s relationship, Ryan and Esposito tell Castle that Beckett is going away with her boyfriend, and she won’t give them the details. But like great partners, Ryan and Esposito take it upon themselves to investigate who the identity of this ‘boyfriend’ is.
As Castle and Beckett arrive in the Hamptons, she gets a grand tour of the place. Beckett looks overwhelmed, as can’t help think of all the other women he’s taken there before. But Castle assures her that none of them were her. Now isn’t that sweet! Just when we think the romance is on when Beckett removes her robe and is about to skinny dip, a man just drops into the pool…dead. When they call the cops, the officers think Beckett is a prostitute. The police end up picking up a meth addict who has the victim’s wallet with them. But Castle can’t stop wondering about the suspect, despite Beckett’s attempts to seduce him. She says she’s on vacation and doesn’t want to investigate a case. However she soon gives up, and the two start looking at possible suspects.
Both Ryan and Esposito go to the morgue to see if Lanie knows who Beckett’s boyfriend is, but she only gets angry. Soon after, Castle calls and enlist their help on the case. They go off to talk to the victim’s wife in the city. Turns out the victim (Franklin) had a girlfriend named Natalia, who was at the party. Castle and Beckett find her at her business, the Hampton’s Sand Bar. However, things don’t go smoothly. They end up getting arrested after they accuse her. Luckily, Officer Brady willing to drop the interference charges if they’ll help him solve the case. Beckett doesn’t want to, but Castle does. She agrees at the end, only with the condition that her precinct doesn’t get word of it. They start by questioning Natalia, then the Meth guy who says he saw a boat being attacked by a shark with red eyes. It sounds insane, but Beckett and Castle go to the docks. Sure enough they see the boat with the red shark and red eyes, which happens to a red neon sign shaped like a shark.
The owner of the boat Mr. Lerner is questioned, but has no idea how the blood got in his boat. He also happens to have an alibi; He was at a weight loss group which checks out. He mentions Franklin had a bad neighbor, a mafia guy named Vincent Cardanoa. Castle decides it’s time he met him–using the excuse that his cousin Sal has been trying to get them together. Officer Brady is scared of Vinnie and tells Castle not to go. But Castle and Beckett decide to invite Vinnie over. Castle acts surprised when Beckett cooks dinner since he didn’t know she could cook. Things don’t go well with Vinnie either, especially after Castle accuses him of murder, Vinnie points out that if he wanted the guy dead there wouldn’t be a body. So far Castle has offended everyone. And when Brady finds out about the Vinnie thing, he’s furious. He threatens to out the two of them to their precinct.
Off inspecting one of Franklin’s buildings, Ryan and Esposito discover it’s actually a meth lab as so are all his other properties. Now Beckett can’t leave it alone and wonders why Franklin wasn’t killed in NY. And even when Castle tries to kiss her, her mind is trying to figure out why they killed him there. Castle says maybe part of the drug business was in the Hamptons, that’s why they needed the helicopter. They try for the kiss again but instead call Ryan and Esposito. Ryan questions Lerner. And they find out a helicopter was used for trafficking Meth. Lerner mentions he told everything to Brady and his two consultants, which gets Ryan asking questions about Castle’s girlfriend. Lerner ends up blurting Kate’s name. With a smirk on his face, Ryan calls Castle and tells him Lerner confessed ‘everything’. Then tells him good luck with his writing.
Brady wants the honor of having Castle and Beckett arrest the marine operator, even though Bentley insists he didn’t kill anyone. Castle realizes something about the ropes and how perfect they are. The real killer tied a sloppy knot. Brady ask him who he thinks planted the evidence in which Castle replied, ” you tell me”. Beckett asks who got the information from McMurray on Bentley, and Brady says Deputy Jones. Jones then aims the gun at them, but Brady shoots him. Castle calls it a Hampton Heat twist he didn’t see coming, and then apologizes to Brady. They find out Jones paid $500 bucks to point the finger at Bentley. As everyone is celebrating, Brady tells Castle and Beckett that their ‘secret’ is safe with him. Finally Beckett and Castle can relax. When Esposito brings up Beckett’s boyfriend Ryan suggest he give up find who it is. Nice surprise that Ryan didn’t tell Esposito. Back at the Hamptons, Castle and Beckett start their real vacation, and Beckett gives Castle an ending…
