On this week’s episode of Drop Dead Diva, Jane tells Stacy that Old Jane (now Brittney) is back. But Stacy thinks these sorts of things don’t just happen. She seems to have momentarily forgotten it happened to Deb. Jane points that out. Just then her phone rings, and on the other line is Brittney. She wants to see Jane.
Grayson walks into his office, but is surprised to find a man dressed in drags. It happens to be Cyd Pinar, an old friend of Grayson’s from basketball. Turns out his boss wanted his costume off, but when he refused to take it off, he was fired. Kim offers to help Grayson with the case.
Jane goes to meet up with Brittney in her office, where she tells Jane about an unfinished case. It was an appeal for a young kid, Matthew Thomas, who was a client of hers convicted of killing a classmate. He confessed after 32 hours of interrogation because he was tired. He had also dated the victim. Brittney discovered a jailhouse snitch (a convicted rapist), who testified that Matthew told him the details of the crime which were never release by the cops. She also discovered the snitch was related to a cop, and so his sentence was reduced. Brittney wants Jane involved, so she takes her to the prison where Matthew is held.
They look into the case once more, noticing there are some missing key points. While Tracy Rivlin was buried in the clothes she was killed in, the crime lab never tested the shirt.Tracy’s body was never exhumed. Now they need the mother’s permission. Jane wants Brittney to use her sex appeal, in order to get the rapist to talk. Looking at Brittney’s face is quite funny; she’s not used to being a hottie. Brittney visits to the prison is hysterical! She pretends she’s a groupie and goes over the top with her hotness and long earrings.
Back at Jane’s office, Brittney walks in and sees Teri, which she immediately hugs. Teri is surprise, since she has no idea who she is. Jane fills in by telling Teri she’s been telling her about her awesome assistant. They make up some story about pro bono case called Candy. But in comes Ms. Rivlin who looks beyond pissed that Jane had vanished before Tracy’s body was to be exhumed. She ends up slapping Jane in the face.
Teri and Brittney are talking about the case, when Jane tells Teri to take the file into the conference room. There Brittney tells Teri to ‘Blow it up’, but Jane doesn’t know what that means. Teri explains its slang for when you take a file and make a war room out of it. She also mentions that Jane she use to say that all the time. Jane pretends to remember.
Grayson is in the court room with the Fresno Mattress salesman, when he finds out Owen is the judge on the case. He immediately feels uncomfortable, and wants Owen to excuse himself, due to Grayson kissing Jane. But Owen doesn’t want to. He wants to see him do his best, but really more like cringe.
As Jane and Brittney look over their case, they conclude that there was no way Matthew could have bitten the victim so hard, due to his braces. It looks like they are on to something very interesting. They take the new evidence to the A.G., but he doesn’t seem to care about the old case ever since Jane had disappeared. Plus there’s also a statute of limitations on perjury, which the snitch (Scott) had committed. Jane proves that Scott and Matthew were never in the same courtyard, so he couldn’t have heard the details about the crime. Yet, the A.G. says nothing will change the judges’ mind. Jane and Brittney still need to get the case open if they’re going to get a shot at convincing the court.
Brittney manages to get the mother of the victim to come talk to them, about the body being exhumed. She finally agrees.
Cyd comes dressed in drags to court. Kim decides to takes over the questioning. In the hopes of confusing Cyd, the opposing team asks him only one question: If he was told to not wear drags to work. He responds, ‘yes’. They then end their questioning.
In a private moment, Brittney tells Jane that she has earned her respect and everyone in the office. As they talk, the subject of Jane’s love life comes up. Brittney tells Jane that even though she loves Owen, it doesn’t mean she can’t love Grayson too. In comes Teri to say the evidence doesn’t match Matthew Thomas.
Kim and Grayson are looking at a video when they notice Cyd a.k.a. Layanna DeSheets makes a good story. They end up finding out the boss was in on the scam, and Cyd was never fired. Grayson is pissed at Cyd for using the legal system for profits, so they make him donate the money to charity since he used the courts for personal gain.
The case is looking grim for Jane until Teri walks in with new evidence for the case. It turns out the DNA is a match to the snitch. We find out Mr. Moore knew the details of the murder because he committed the crime. Now there is no doubt Matthew Thomas was wrongly accused, and the judge orders his release immediately.
Kim is miserable since Parker chose to stay with his ex and is not coming back. Grayson tries to distract her by confessing that he kissed Jane. Poor Kim is on her own with her pregnancy.
Finally ready to move on (and with her bossy angel), Brittney tells Jane to make the best of her second chance. She then goes off to start her new life.
It was a touching episode. We can’t wait to see what’s to come for Jane and the others.
