It’s wedding bells for Jane and Owen on the season finale of Drop Dead Diva. Right off the bat, we see Jane showing Stacy her wedding gown, right as Owen walks in. This catching them by surprise and quickly try to hide the dress. Jane tells Owen it’s bad luck to see the dress before the wedding. Since nothing is ever simple on this show, we’re bound to get some surprises.
Jane walks into the office and sees someone she knew when she was Deb. She runs to hug Mark, Grayson’s good friend, but the poor man is confused having never met Jane before. But Jane quickly fixes her mistake by saying Grayson told her about him and his wife. Grayson is about to question it when she cuts him off and introduces herself to Mark. They find out Mark’s wife Hannah was diagnosed with a brain tumor. As a result, the brain tumor has made her very smart. Refusing to have surgery, Hannah is not expected to live long. Jane suggests Mark say Hannah is not capable of making her own decisions because she is compromised and therefore he could have the right to decide what is the best course to save her life.
Stacy walks in to Kim’s office, she heard Kim was representing Grammy award winner and singer-songwriter Paige McBride. She tells Kim she knows everything about her and she can help. Turns out Paige’s ex had a car accident and his breaks where slashed just the way it says she would do to him on her song, “Who’s broken Now”. As expected, Paige is accused of solicitation to commit murder. Kim tries to get the case dismissed but the Judge doesn’t go for it.
At court, Jane puts a specialist on the stand to talk about the tumor and the fact that Hannah would only have six months to live. Hannah representing herself, puts the neuroscientist Dr. Alton on the stand. He tells the court it is not conclusive whether she could have 6 months to live or years. And it is ultimately, her choice if she wants the tumor removed.
We catch a glimpse of Old Jane in her after life. The Old Jane is miserable watching Deb live her live in her body and making a mess out of it. Although, she is determined to do something about it.
Parker expressing his joy over Kim’s pregnancy. But Kim is upset with Luke because he revealed her secret. On the other hand, Parker is excited and tells Kim he would be there for her, however she tells him it is not his baby.
Back at the Paige case, a Ms. Keck (Kelly Osbourne), takes the stand after she pleads guilty for the attempted murder of Chase Black. She gets 15 years for it. Her motive: revenge. She attempted to kill Chase because he cheated on Paige. And where did the inspiration come from? Paige’s song. Go figure!
Real Jane Bingham talks to an angel and says she wants to go back to earth. They tell her they can’t do that so she tries to use her lawyer skill, but it doesn’t work. They only answer to a higher power. As the real Jane walks away, a little old guy tells her to talk to Fred.
Jane is attempting to write her vows, when Owen startles her. She tells him about the fight with her mother. He comforts her–telling her all brides fight with their mothers and in trying to cheer her up, he reads his wedding vows to her. Such a sweet moment for these two.
As Grayson and Jane listen to Mark talk about Hannah and how the tumor has changed her, Jane tells Grayson that Mark should reconsider the petition. Grayson isn’t on the same page. He tells her that Mark is fighting for the woman he loves. Jane tells Grayson she understands how he feels, especially since he’s never gotten over Deb. This angers Grayson so much, he boots her off the case. He then tells her he would always love Deb but has moved on.
After showing Mark and Hannah’s wedding video to the court, Jane explains to the judge that Mark is trying to save the woman he loves. She says she will like to amend the Cause of action to breach of contract, because she insists oral contracts are considered valid and the court should enforce it. It doesn’t work however, and the case is dismissed.
Luke confronts Jane about her reaction toward Jane’s mom and the fact that she’s not going to the wedding. He believes Jane doesn’t accept Elaine because if she can’t have her perfect wedding, Jane’s mom can’t either. He asks her why she hasn’t written her wedding vows. He then tells her she is the only stuck in the past, while Grayson has moved on.
It’s not over for Paige, as Chase is suing her for slander–claiming the song destroyed his reputation. Stacy comes in to prove Joyce couldn’t have driven from Hollywood to Chase’s house in Malibu in half an hour on a Friday night, since it’s near impossible. When she was supposedly slashing Chases tired she had been tweeting a picture of herself cleaning Paige’s star in the Hollywood Walk of fame. Stacy believes Joyce confessed to the crime because she thinks Paige actually cut the breaks.
Grayson tells Jane he did some research on the neuronal tumor, and if it isn’t removed at its early stages the connectivity to the healthy tissue makes removal impossible and fatal within a year. Dr. Alton was trained by the man who conducted the study, so they decided they should go talk to him. He tells them he is aware of the study and discloses that Hannah is aware of the risk. Jane finds the Grant proposal that Dr. Alton mentioned in court. She takes a picture for proof.
Kim proves Joyce Keck didn’t slash Chase breaks because they were slashed with an ice pick. Stacy says a fan would get the lyrics right. LAPD searches Mr. Black’s house and finds the ice pick in the kitchen. With Kim’s awesome skills, it’s uncovered that Chase slashed his own breaks and planned the accident in order to milk his ex- girlfriend out of a million dollars. Chase gets arrested for obstruction of justice, extortion, and filing a false police report. Props to Stacy for helping the case.
Jane and Grayson visit Hannah and show her the study of Dr. Alton. They explain that in order to secure funding, Dr. Alton needs to study the circuitry of a mature Neuronal tumor. Hannah notices he has secured her autopsy in six months and quickly realizes how dumb she was, and decides to go ahead with the surgery.
Luke tells Jane, “you are a good person Deb”. She’s surprised he called her Deb. He says it was Deb’s soul that evolved into who she is today.
They play a beautiful song while Jane gets ready for her wedding. Her Mom helps her put the Tiara on. Everyone goes to sit down. Then we jump to Old Jane going to Fred… yes Fred. He thinks Jane died and is looking at the data base. Then he realizes she’s old Jane. She tells him it turns out that when you die and someone else’s soul gets put in your body you have the option to watch. She says she has been watching a train wreck or a tsunami. As they play the bridal song and Jane is about to walk out, her gown gets stuck.
Old Jane tries to find out from Fred how Deb was able to go into another person’s body. He carelessly starts telling her how, but soon stops himself. Unfortunately, the Old Jane has figured it out, distracted him and pushed the button.
Grayson can’t wait anymore and goes to see why Jane is taking so long. He helps Jane free herself. She asked him how he moved on from Deb. He says he found someone else. Jane begs him to tell her. Grayson tells Jane he was able to move on because he found her. Jane is stunned. He apologizes and wishes for her to be happy. They look at each other and…drumroll…kiss. The moment we had been waiting for. Unfortunately, Owen having witnessed the kiss, gets a heart attack. The Old Jane travels right into Owen’s body. And when Owen opens his eyes, he says “where am I?”. Right then and there, the finale ends. Talk about cliffhanger! It’s safe to say, we’re going to be waiting anxiously to find out what happens next.
