On this episode of Drop Dead Diva, Jane and Belinda (the new assistant temporarily taking Kim’s place) co-counsel rock star Liam Matthews (Rick Springfield) who was arrested for trashing a hotel room. The duo is able to cut a deal for Liam, where he makes a public announcement for Cats and Dogs, to make up for trashing the hotel room. However, Liam gets kicked out of his band the Black Pedal by the one of the band members’ girlfriend, so now Jane has to help him sue for wrongful termination.
Grayson must save a building with amazing artwork on it from getting teared down. The owner wants everyone to move out of the building. To win the case, he’ll have to prove the graffiti on the building is really art.
On a side note, Jane and Grayson are preparing for their first date. Maybe it’s the nerves talking but we can’t help noticing that Jane is acting a tad silly when she happens to be around Grayson. Hopefully those will iron out.
Now back to Jane’s case. It turns out Liam’s termination is valid, so it looks like Jane has her work cut out for her.
Elsewhere, the judge is upset with Grayson and accuses him of vandalism. When he doesn’t show up for his date with Jane, she starts to think Grayson doesn’t want to date her in this body. Liam shows up in Jane’s home, visibly upset about his friend’s girlfriend Reesa.
Meanwhile Jane gets a call that Grayson is in jail, which Stacy thinks it’s awesome because that means Grayson didn’t stand Jane up on purpose. Jane visits Grayson and he apologizes for ruining their date. It’s so funny because the judge put him in jail so he can sleep off his attitude. Jane unknowingly helps Grayson with his case, and she gets a kiss on the cheek. Being the genius that she is, Jane decides to treat Liam’s case as a divorce called palimony which is when best friends have done everything as a couple.
Lucky for Grayson the mayor wants to buy the artwork, which is great, but the owner still wants to vacate the building. We find out the owner of the building is using the artwork on the building to promote his new condos.
Jane proves how important Liam and his partner are, we hear them sing a beautiful song (always nice to hear Rick Springfield sing).
Desperate to get rid of Belinda after the latter has made several annoying interferences, Jane decides to have coffee with Kim where she uses her powers of persuasion to get Kim off her long maternity leave and come back to the firm.
The advertisement, ironically, ends up being the building owner’s downfall and the judge declares the building a historic landmark and prohibits the owner from evicting the residents. Grayson wins his case and the artist (whose identity was hidden) gives Grayson artwork as payment for his help.
Liam finds out he has Parkinson Disease, a diagnosis which was kept from him. Liam thinks it was Reesa who kept it from him since she wanted him out of the band. Neil thought it was just Liam being self-destructive but in reality he was really sick. Owen tells Jane the insurance should know about the diagnosis because the band manager would have had to let the insurance carrier know. Turns out the band manager did submit a report to the insurance company but didn’t say anything about the diagnosis because he didn’t want to pay the premium. The band manger gets charged for reckless endangerment because he delayed the treatment. Neil tells the judge that Liam is back in the band since the Black Pedals are nothing without him. Looks like another great win for Jane.
The episode ends on a sweet note as Grayson and Jane admit they are thinking about each other, a fact that leaves a smile on Jane’s face. Can’t wait to see more of this couple as the season continues.
