[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t is 2015, which means we are ready to start updating our skincare, and getting us back to tip top shape. One of the best ways to do so is to start with our skin. How? Start with a great exfoliator. Not only will an exfoliator take away all that dry skin that’s been laying on the surface, but will create a perfect blank canvas for the rest of our skincare. Now exfoliators are easy to find in the stores, and come in various forms and prices, but a great (and affordable) option is to make your own.
In fact many of us have all the ingredients in our kitchens already. As our first Chic DIY of the year, our very own Avni Patankar teaches us how to make her quick and easy lemon scrub that is perfect for exfoliating the skin and brightening the complexion.

- 3/4 cup of sugar
- 1/4 cup of olive oil (or coconut oil)
- 1 tbsp of lemon or 2-4 drops of essential oil of your choice
- 1 glass jar or container with lid

Pour all the ingredients in a mason jar or any glass container. Simply stir the ingredients together with a spoon until combined.
To use, take a small dollop of the scrub and rub it in circular motions on your hands, arms or any part of the body you want to exfoliate. Just wash off with water.
Tip: If the mixture starts to look too liquidy, simply stir it and resume using the scrub.

Want to make this quick and easy sugar scrub into the perfect homemade gift? Here is how:
From your computer, create a label (or several if making more than one) that says Lemon Scrub. You can even add a custom image as a lemon or personal logo to the label. Print the label(s) out.
Once the labels have printed and cut out, take some mod podge and glue it to the jar. Apply about 2-3 coats, letting it dry between each coat. This will ensure the label does not fall off. Just add some ribbon around the jar for an extra touch. Voila, a perfect gift!

Is the yellow color in the photo only from the lemon oil? Looks very yellow.
It has lemon and olive oil. We used an A quality olive oil so it’s more yellow than standard ones. Color will differ
