Pop-Culture Inspiration: “Wuthering Heights” by Emily Bronte.
A personal favorite is “Wuthering Heights” by Emily Bronte. The story is about the romantical highs and lows of an 1800s Yorkshire family and the various tragedies that occur therein.
How to Get The Look: Catherine Earnshaw
I hate to say this, but Catherine is a grade-A beeyotch. She loves Heathcliff, the poor gypsy boy her father discovered on the streets and brought home, but tangles with his feelings and ends up marrying Edgar Linton, her boring (albeit very rich) neighbor. Heathcliff, in turn, becomes a sadistic bastard, marrying Linton’s sister, Isabella, just to bite back at Catherine.
She might be a beeyotch, but she certainly dresses well! Here, embodied by Kaya Scoledario in a 2012 itineration, she looks the quintessential moneyed lady she became once she married into wealth. To get her look, first you need a fantastic red coat or blazer. I LOVE thisblazer. It just screams Catherine. If you’re willing to splurge, here’s a great one from Rag & Bone. And a woolen trench from House of Fraser. You also are in need of a red skirt, preferably midi-length. I like this one from ModCloth or this one from Yoox.com. That one is stunning. A frilly blouse is worn under the coat, like this pre-owned Alexander McQueen from The Real Real, this one from Free People, or this one from Lord and Taylor. Don’t be afraid of the gloves! Flat ankle boots complete the look.
How to Get The Look: Heathcliff
To copy Heathcliff, you need a lightweight coat of an earthy tone, like this one from New Look, this Mango trench, or this gray drawstring, also from New Look. Add a button-down vest, a white blouse, and some boots. That’s basically all there is to it!
Last but not least is the “Vampire Diaries”.
Pop-Culture Inspiration: The “Vampire Diaries” created by L.J Smith.
Synopsis: A Young Adult book about a mortal-turned-vampire girl that is torn between two vampire brothers. It has been turned into a successful TV show on CW.
How to Get The Look: Elena Gilbert & Katherine Pierce
Elena’s style is cute and basic. I heart a pink cashmere sweater, which is what Elena is wearing in this photo. Try this one from Lord and Taylor or, if you’re willing to splurge (why not? It’s cashmere!), this one from Ralph Lauren is beautiful. Any kind of white camisole is worn underneath, followed by jeans, skinny or bootcut.
For Katherine:
Katherine Pierce is fierce (see what I did there?). Played also by Nina Dobrev, she is Elena’s doppelganger and otherwise polar opposite. To get her look, you need to be willing to show off some skin. A pair of black jeans or leather pants, a tight top, a black leather jacket , a wide belt, and heeled boots are necessary to complete Katherine’s look. Go on! Rock those leather pants!
That’s it for now! Look for the next installment soon!
