[dropcap]W[/dropcap]e are pretty sure keeping the skin hydrated yearlong is one of those beauty rules that should never be broken under any condition unless maybe you’re stranded in a desert island. And maybe not even then (coconut oil anyone?). Now winter can have us enjoying roaring fires and extra layers, but it can also wreck havoc on our skin so repairing and moisturizing the skin is essential. While there are many “hydrating” products on the market from high end to drugstore, we love finding a homemade alternative. Luckily, our very own Avni Patankar has the perfect DIY body butter recipe to keep the skin silky and smooth. Check out how you can make your very own whipped body butter.

Step 1
Place the butter and oils in a double broiler on the stove at medium heat until they are melted and well combined.
Step 2
Transfer the mixture to a bowl and place it in the fridge until it gets solid enough that you can press your finger into it. If the mixture gets too solid you can reheat the mixture and place it back in the fridge. Tip: We recommend checking every 15 minutes.
Step 3
Once the mixture has become solid enough, take your stand mixer (or hand mixer) and beat the mixture until it has a whipped cream consistency.
Step 4
Add ten drops of the essential oils of your choice (i.e lavender, peppermint, etc) and beat until incorporated. Tip: You may need more than 10 drops of the essential oil depending on how strong of a scent you want your body butter to be, especially if you decide to mix essential oils.
Step 5
Take a mason jar or your desired glass container (make sure it’s sealable) and fill it with the whipped body butter. Enjoy!
TO USE

Take a small amount and apply to the skin like lotion. Feel free to use liberally. For best results use before or after your shower.
BONUS
This body butter makes a great gift for special occasions. Simply create and print out a label that says Body butter, and use modge podge to glue it to the container. For an added touch, tie a ribbon around the jar.
