It’s Fall so what better way to start the new season than to resume our Meditate The Chic series again. This month, writer Starrie Lowe captures one of nature’s most beautiful insects, the butterfly. Read on to find out more about the inspiration behind her beautiful photo, and our Challenge of the month.

This close up shot of a gorgeous butterfly was taken during a visit to the Butterfly Pavillion at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles last week. Butterflies have often symbolized the fragility and strength in life. So like these beautiful creatures’ short life spans, change is inevitable in our lives. The question we must all ask ourselves is this: do we fight the reality or come to a place where we can accept the inevitable with grace and dignity in order to grow and reach our potential.

Our tendency to seek a solution to an issue, to recreate and transform areas in our lives can often hinder us from living a fruitful life, especially if we are never satisfied. Ask yourself this, how many times have you wasted precious energy trying to relentlessly figure out how to change certain things in your life? But what if we spent less time frustrated on an often futile endeavor, and more time coming to terms with the reality that there are things that we have no control over. Instead, we challenge you to accept the things you can’t change. The first crucial step is to take a good deep breath. Come on…inhale and exhale. Now that we have this over, let’s move on.
We all have things we wished we could change about ourselves and others, whether it’s smaller hips, an extra 5 inches taller, or simply wishing our grumpy neighbor from next door could magically become a walking billboard for Colgate toothpaste.
While there are plenty of ways to “improve” ourselves, there are many ways we cannot.
Challenge: So rather than falling into a vicious cycle of berating ourselves and others, why not simply accept them? See these “flaws” not as limitations but as key factors of what makes us so unique.
Now this certainly doesn’t happen overnight. It requires us to be patient and strong when faced with moments of self-doubt and criticism.
But what about improving ourselves? Growth is always vital. Therefore, we should strive to improve ourselves, whether it’s taking on a healthier lifestyle, cutting out negative people in our lives, or smiling at a stranger you pass on the street. These are good goals and initiatives. The key is to not undervalue ourselves and the things already in our lives right now. Most times the grass is not always greener on the other side.
So we ask that you give yourself a compliment today and every day. If you happen to hit a target weight goal, give yourself a mental applause (maybe even that Chanel bag you’ve been lusting for) or just come to an equally agreeable compromise with your partner to help strengthen your relationship. Whatever the case, feel good about who you are. Stop a second to smell the roses in your own backyard.

Love it 🙂
