We love Pinterest so much, we were inspired to take on a quick and easy DIY project of our own. So after a visit to Michaels, we came up with the idea of creating a set of flower vase bookends for our office. These gorgeous book ends have a little glitz and glam to them, which is absolutely perfect to dress up any desk or shelf.
Directions
check out the video we made to see a live demo of how to do this DIY project.
- Step 1: Put on a pair of gloves and begin to pour some mod podge in a small lid.
- Step 2: With your brush, dip it in to the mod podge and apply an even coat on the vase. Work one side at a time. Tip: Try to use up and down strokes as this gives for a better application.
- Step 3: Sprinkle on the glitter, turning from side to side so everything get coated. And shake off the excess.
- Step 4: Turn the vase on the other side and do the same. Tip: If you notice a few areas are empty, simply go in there with your brush and add some more mod podge and glitter.
- Step 5: Don’t forget the top as well.
- Step 6: Proceed to do the same on the second vase.
- Step 7: Let the vases dry for at least an hour or two.
- Step 8. After they dry, apply another layer of mod podge all over to set the first layer of glitter.
- Step 9: You’re now going to apply another round of glitter on top. Tip: You can pour or pat the glitter on, it’s your choice.
- Step 10: Again let everything dry for another hour.
- Step 11: In the meantime, grab your flowers (any kind will do) and begin to wrap electric black tape on the stems, cutting the excess off. Next insert the flowers in the vase.
- Step 12: Taking your vases (now dried), start sticking on the letters. We chose to spell out Book on one and End on the other. But you can do anything. Tip: We found sticking the letters before applying mod podge makes it easier, and ensures the letters stay in place.
- Step 13:It’s now time to add the last layer of mod podge. Once it’s applied, let the vases rest for at least an hour or until completely dry.
- Step 14: Voila You’re done! Tip: If you want to make your vases a bit more sturdy, just add sand or pebbles in the vase.
- Step 15: Voila you’re done!
