This month’s Glossybox featured several interesting beauty products for us. Unlike September’s Harper’s Bazaar edition box, the theme for this month wasn’t one we would have expected to see for October. According to the sneak preview we found on glossybox.com, the box is said to feature “five brightening beauty essentials meant to evoke an affair of the heart.” We love the concept, we just wonder if the “romance” factor should have been saved for February.
While the theme had us a bit confused, the products themselves were exactly on point. Once again Glossybox really steps up their game, giving us some fantastic essentials that cover from head to toe.
The first product in our box was the Nails Inc. Westminster Bridge Matte Top Coat. It is already a given that we are nail polish addicts, and therefore, we can never resist trying out new top coats to fall in love with. Surprisingly, we have tried very few matte polishes, and even less matte top coats since tend to prefer the glossy finish. This being said, this is by far one of the most impressive matte coats we have used so far. Unlike other ones we have tried before, this one glides smoothly on the nail without depositing too much polish and prolonging the drying time further. Instead, in one easy coat application, you have a really nice matte finish within minutes. We can now actually look forward to playing around with matte nails for Fall.
One of our favorite Cruelty-free beauty brands we always carry in our makeup bag is Tarte Cosmetics, so we love discovering new products from them. The Power Pigment in Flush is a fabulous lip color for Fall with its sheer berry undertones. We can see ourselves pairing this lip tint with a darker vampy lipstick for those days we want to go a little bolder. Plus we love the mint taste.
Next is the Vince Camuto Amore Eau De Parfum. First of, we have to mention that Glossybox is one of the few beauty subscription services that have yet to overload us with those dreaded perfume samples we have all come to fear.

We love how the design of the bottle pays has a sleek, delicate “princess” finish, with just the subtle touch of romance (hence the name). The Amore mini has a lovely light floral/fruity scent but with a touch of warmth we don’t normally find in floral scents. In fact, the warmth from the rich amber and sandalwood in this perfume makes it a versatile fragrance we can see transitioning from Spring to Fall.
The Proganix Volume Root Boost Finish + Body Builder was a completely new product for us. We have never used a root booster before since our hair type tends to lean on the curly/wavy side, and therefore we tend to have plenty of volume to work with. Yet, we wanted to give this product a try to see whether we could make it work with our hair. What we liked about this was how easy we can target where we want volume to be in our hair. So if want more lift in our crown then we can just spritz one or two times and we voila, we have some great umph. It said we should apply the product on towel-dried hair, but for us curly hair gals, we actually preferred to use it on a few spots rather than overall. The product does add body and volume to the hair without making it hard or unmanageable. It also leave a nice shine as well. The one issue we had was not necessarily the product’s performance (go figure) but the scent itself. The moment we started using it we could immediately smell that commercial hairspray scent that becomes overpowering really quickly. We suggest spraying this lightly on the hair.
Last is one of our favorite products in the box, the Sesha Botanical Hydro Mask. After the heat waves we have been experiencing in sunny California, our dry skin needs the hydration. As skincare enthusiasts, we love pampering ourselves every weekend with a lovely mask or two, so we were beyond thrilled to get a mask in our box.
This hydro mask was a little tricky to take out of the package at first since we weren’t use to peeling off a plastic backing on any of our masks before. But once we removed the plastic backing, it was a breeze to place the mask over our pre-cleaned face. We love how rich and hydrating the mask felt on our face, despite looking all funky with our mask on (note to self: do not answer the door to the usps guy wearing this). After 30 minutes, we removed the mask. When we looked in the mirror we noticed a visible difference in the tone of our skin. Prior to putting the mask on we had several red blotches on the skin, which were either no longer there or significantly lessened. This probably attributes to the anti-inflammatory properties (i.e green tea, cucumber fruit and marigold) found in the Sesha mask. Our skin also felt hydrated and has a really lovely glow to the skin. However, some might not like the semi-sticky residue the mask leaves for a few minutes. We had no problem with this as we applied this right before bed, and when we woke up, we were left with fresh, hydrated skin.
Overall, we can’t be more happy with the products in our box. And while we would have loved to see one of the products have a halloween feel, we did enjoy the selection curated this month.
