[dropcap]I[/dropcap]f you are one of those brides-to-be who like to ditch tradition and do things their own way, then choosing an intimate beach wedding over a traditional one is right for you. Imagine the salty air, breeze, sand, and sea as your background. Sounds like your thing, right? But before you can dive right into planning, here are a few suggestions we have put together to help you create the ultimate beach wedding.
[large_title title=”Beach Wedding Dress”]
With sand, wind, and humid air at the beach, these conditions doesn’t always translate well for the bride wearing a ball gown, high heels, plenty of expensive jewelry, and heavy makeup. Instead, we suggest going for a more natural look that still looks elegant but works beautifully with your beach wedding. A major plus to this is that you can wear anything you feel comfortable in, even real short silk dresses that resemble nightgowns and no one will blink an eye. You truly have a plethora of wedding dress options to play around with.
Natural materials are often recommended as they usually do well under these weather conditions so aim for lace, linen, cotton, and chiffon. Of course, if you’ve always dreamed of an elaborate gown beautifully crafted with pearls, glitter, and beads then by all means go for it. Just make sure it doesn’t give you trouble breathing or create any difficulty when and if you have to walk over sand and pebbles.
[large_title title=”Wedding Invitations”]
Of course, you will have the exact location printed on your invitations, but why not take it a step further and have the very look of your invitation say: “We are having a beach wedding!”? There are beautifully decorated wedding invitations with motifs of seashells, seahorses in gold print, pearls, sunset, and palm trees for your consideration. Even for those on a budget or going the DIY route, there are so many options you can do to really create your unique beach-inspired wedding invitations. But make sure to make a few mock-ups or simply jot down in a wedding planner, how you want your invitations to look exactly before you get them done. This will not only guarantee you’re happy with the finished product, but also helps you focus on the theme and feel of your beach wedding.
[large_title title=”Dress Code for Guests”]
You can include a style guide in your invitation, but make sure you have a serious talk with friends and relatives so they know what you expect of them. Beach weddings are usually casual and intimate, so ‘beach formal’ might exclude ties, cocktail dresses, high heels, and patent leather shoes.
If your guests wish to dress more formally, men can wear sandals (i.e loafers) and linen suits, and women can wear knee-length summer dresses. But this is all depends on you and your fiance’s preference. Some couples want a completely relaxed feel and so they encourage guests to come barefoot, wearing shorts, skirts, beach kaftans and even swimsuits underneath their clothes for when join the bride and groom for a swim after the ceremony. And of course, there are couples who are looking to mesh the beautiful beach backdrop with a more semi-formal setting. Whatever the style, just make sure to make the dress code obvious to your guests.
[large_title title=”Decorate the Space”]
Now if you had wanted a completely formal ceremony, you would have gone the traditional route and called it a day. But you didn’t. You wanted your venue to be at a place where your groom, guests and you could look out and soak in the vast space, the blueness of the sky and sea, and feel the breeze. When it comes to decorating the space, you want to work with this beautiful setting you have. So many couples decide to use pergolas and gazebos, add light chiffon curtains, and a beach-inspired decorations like seashells, sea glass, and pebbles during their ceremony and reception (i.e tablescapes).
If you’re set to have a sunset wedding, we suggest placing plenty of lanterns and small candles in sand-and-pebbles-filled mason jars. If palm leaves are available, you can make little palm leaves fans for all of your guests if the day is really hot; they will love it.
We love how you’ve chosen the beach as your ideal backdrop to express your love for each other and nature. We hope this Beach Style Wedding guide helps you in planning your amazing beach wedding.

Hi Sophia!
I totally agree and love your images of the more natural material dresses for a beach wedding. Traditional dresses might clash with the relaxed, open feel of a beach wedding. I love the inspirational images you pulled together – the gazebo is such a cute idea! There is something much more romantic about a beach wedding.
Best,
Kali

Thank you for your kind words and stopping by!
Wow! I love a beach wedding. Just beautiful!
Beach weddings are one of our favorites too!
I wanted a traditional church service, we definitely toyed with the idea of being in the sand at sunset. So beautiful!

I’m sure yours was absolutely stunning.
Beach weddings are so pretty when the weather is perfect! I love the idea of the lanterns by the side at sunset! So pretty!
Yes, lanterns just give that whimsical feel to the special event.
This looks like a beautiful way to have a wedding. I’m not a huge beach person but this is pretty. My best friend just got married and she was so stressed, not to mention the TX heat and my allergies drove me crazy, I feel like I may just elope lol
Lol! Weddings are stressful no doubt. Especially if you’re faced with every thing bad happening. Elopement sounds real good about that time.
So cute! We are getting married in the South of France and want to bring some chic-beach-style to it! Great post!
Omg how incredible! Congratulations on your big day!!
I have been to one beach wedding that ended up having to get moved up from the beach because of the wind but I love the feel and look to them!
Beach weddings look wonderful that is if the weather chooses to play nice. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
I have never been to a beach wedding, this makes me want to bad…all so lovely! The dresses are awesome picks!
Wedding dresses are one of our favorites things about a wedding, especially if they’re for outdoor/beach weddings.
I’m not even engaged, but this makes me want a beach wedding sooo bad!!
Beach weddings are just incredible!
The idea of a beach wedding is such a novelty to me. A beach wedding in Ireland would be comical and FREEZING! I love the idea of guest wearing loafers, linens and semi casual attire, I also love the idea of the lighter dress/make-up
Oh we could just imagine! Although we did see a wedding where the bride and groom had movable heaters through the outdoor ceremony and reception to keep everyone warm, so it is possible. But definitely a tricky thing to do.
We thought about a beach wedding but decided on a Kentucky Derby themed wedding. We will be having it at the local horse racing track during live racing and everything will be done as if it was at Churchill’s Downs.
Oh we just love your Kentucky Derby theme! We hope you’ll share a snippet of your wedding because we would love to see it.
Stunning ideas! My sister is planning a wedding by the beach so I’m going to show her your article 🙂
Oh how wonderful, thank you! And congrats to your sister on her upcoming wedding!
Gorgeous ideas, I love beach weddings!
We do too!
Such great tips. I especially like the reminder about wearing a lighter dress and decorating the invites. I got married in the desert….but still went for the big ballroom gown….it…was….hot! lol. The pictures are gorgeous as well.
Oh how amazing! We have been to a few weddings in the desert and they’re absolutely beautiful. All the brides wore ballroom gowns too…but they rock them for sure.
These are such good tips! We originally wanted a beach wedding but opted in the end to have it at our yacht club instead. It was just a whole lot easier for everyone. But I love the rustic decor and the coastal vibes!
We totally understand. Beach weddings while they look simple, can be quite stressful to plan out.
Beach weddings are so beautiful! And your guide is just amazing, I want to get married again now… heheheh not changing husbands, just having a wedding like this!
Perfect time to renew your vows. We actually just went to a beach wedding to celebrate a friend’s parents 40th anniversary/renew vows. Was absolutely stunning
Dream wedding! The only thing that put me off, like you’ve stated are the heat (no one wants to be sweaty in their wedding dress) and guests being able to attend. Lovely ideas 🙂
Yes heat can definitely be an issue. We have definitely seen ceremonies held under shadow palm trees, and tents set up to keep some of the heat at bay so it is possible to stay cool.
So pretty! I think what I love most about beach weddings is how intimate they feel!
We completely agree!
I really love the idea of beach weddings. My fear, as with any outdoor wedding, is rain. On my last vacation I saw a couple get married in the hotel lobby (which wasn’t all that nice) b/c it was raining. Destination weddings are a hot topic at my house so I’ll have to keep this in mind if/when the time comes!
Weather is one of this major factors when it comes to a wedding. However, there are ways to go about avoid some of these issues whether its setting the wedding date for months with least chances of rain, gazebos and tents set for the big date.
Wow! Everything looks just incredible! I love destinations wedding. Your photographer has captured all your moments so beautifully. Thanks for sharing it with us!
P.S – I loved your dress and you look like an angel! 🙂
We want to renew our vows on the beach and this is perfect
Oh this would be absolutely perfect! Go for it!
This is so pretty, so bright, so chic, so nice! It’s lovely 🙂 I say yes!
Thank you for the kind words 🙂
Thank you very much for this post! We have actually talked about weddings and we really want something non conventional. Even if wedding on the beach is somehow common, we like the idea. I will bookmark this if we ever go for it 🙂
What we love about the beach is that you can easily add your own personal touch and steer away from the conventional. Let us know if you two decide to go to the beach wedding route.
One of the most romantic things on earth is a wedding on a beach. The feeling and the sunset pictures are just the top romantic there is! I would love to marry like that.

Yes having that gorgeous sunset as a backdrop is absolutely perfection.
The beach is always such a romantic and great place for a wedding. I love all the visual inspiration that you came up with. Beautiful!
Thank you! 🙂
Beach weddings are so pretty, especially at sunset! I would be worried about the weather too much I think unless it was some place tropical.
Definitely finding the right month and beach is a must for a successful beach wedding. But it can definitely be tricky.
Wow.. Everything looks so pretty!! Your guide is just amazing!! Love this!!
Thank you so much!
Love your website and the beach wedding looks perfect!
