One of our fashion obsessions this month has been adding a little more bedazzle in our wardrobe, whether in shoes decked with multifaceted gems or gorgeous beaded trims. We just say we can’t get enough. So much so we decided to pair a few pieces from our closet to create a fun, sparkly outfit with touches of vintage thrown in for a night out with the gals. A Ross store find, this simple, but elegant navy dress from Haani was the centerpiece of our style look. The silhouette is perfect for those curvy gals as the center band brings in the waist while the skirt flows naturally just slightly above the knees. It is also incredibly comfort to wear–a plus when you plan to be out for hours. Now we love the style of the dress, but what caught our eye was the encrusted crystals and beading all along the collar. It adds a luxurious, dress up feel to what could have easily been a plain dress.
Although the weather in California tends to be sunny and warm, it’s never a bad idea to carry a light sweater or blazer in case the night cools a bit. Here is where we opted for a little vintage flair by pairing the dress with a classic black blazer we picked up last month at a thrift shop for only $2 dollars (a steal right?). The blazer reaches just past the hip bone, which we love to pair with flowy dresses and skirts as this can add a bit more structure and soften the curves a bit. In our unique fashion, we rolled up the sleeves a bit to give it a little more modern feel.
Our second favorite part of this outfit is the shoes. Now you may be asking yourself, “Why gold and not silver given the silver detailing of the necklace?”, however we wanted to change up the rules a bit by meshing cool and warm tones. These gorgeous Nicole ballet flats (also from Ross) are covered in gold glitter threading with multifaceted rhinestones in various sizes on the front. Surprisingly, the silver toned rhinestones and gold threading go beautifully with the detailing on the dress; thus creating a warmth and brightening effect to the entire look. Now if you’re like us, flat shoes or booties with no more than 2 to 3 inch heels is your best bet to a comfortable night out. Unless, of course you’re a heel queen then we applaud you!
One of the great things about clothing with sparkle, gems or stone is that you really don’t have to over think jewelry. Now because our dress had that stunning beading trim on the collar, we didn’t have to fuss on statement necklaces or any type of necklace for that matter. We opted for vintage, delicate and two-toned jewelry. The first was our vintage Dolce & Gabanna gold link watch we found at a consignment store. The crystals on the face of the watch blend beautifully with the crystals on the dress. To go along with our watch, we paired it with our favorite (and sentimental) pearl charmed bracelet. We then just added our two-toned half eternity diamond ring (also from a local consignment store) and lastly, these delicate bow diamond earrings in silver.
Now find the right purse or clutch can be tricky, especially if you’re not sure what you’re planning to do on your girl’s night out or date. Following the guideline that less is more, we chose our BCBGeneration clutch to carry our essentials. THE COAT: Never underestimate the power of a good classic blazer to play up any outfit. The best part is that many of us have a classic black blazer in our closet. Blazers over dresses can be a bit tricky especially if you’re looking not to add volume. This why a fitted cut is the perfect style as this adheres to the shape of your body and adds structure. Tip: We suggest making a visit to a local thrift shop to pick out one there if you’re looking for a budget-friendly option. You’ll be surprised with the unique pieces you’ll discover there.

THE DRESS: To start of, find the perfect gem neckline dress based on your body type. Just make sure it goes in at the waist as this tends to be universally flattering on all body shapes. Tip: Find a dress where the skirt naturally falls as this will not add any unnecessary bulk to your lower half.

THE SHOES: Depending on the detailing on your dress, you may want to opt for a warm or cooler palette for the shoes. For example, if you dress has gold beading, opt for silver silver shoes just as long as the rest of your accessory pieces also play around the different color metals. The key is to find a simple style ballet shoe that adds just the right pizzazz to your outfit.

Accessories: Here is where accessories can help or break your outfit, which is why you should make your dress the center focal point. Find two tone pieces that complement the detailing on your dress but still add a touch of contrast. So if your dress has silver details go for soft golds. And if the gold has silver studs or gems even better. Keep the scheme to two to three colors as the backbone, and make it your own by adding different textures and styles within those colors such as a bracelet with white pearls interlinked with gold charms. Tip: not every item of accessory needs to be two tone. The rule of thumb can be one or two pieces while the rest one or the other.
